Who is Euro-FH suitable for?

Euro-FH is particularly suitable for students who want to organise their learning and examination schedule largely independently. The study model is aimed at working professionals, parents, self-employed students and others whose daily routines do not fit reliably around a fixed weekly timetable.

Distance learning may be a good choice if you …

• do not want to wait for a traditional semester intake,
• want to determine most of your study times yourself,
• want to take examinations in the evening or at weekends,
• want to choose between a faster full-time route and a part-time study variant,
• like working with structured study booklets while also using digital learning resources,
• want a substantial tuition-free extension period if your studies take longer than planned,
• may be able to have previous university study or selected professional qualifications recognised.

Conventional distance learning may be less suitable if you …

• need a fixed weekly timetable with regular live teaching – Online Evening Study provides more structure,
• do not want to organise most of your learning progress independently,
• cannot regularly commit around 15 to 20 hours per week to your studies,
• want regular face-to-face interaction and a traditional campus experience,
• want to use a Psychology degree for the German psychotherapist licensure pathway.

The high degree of flexibility therefore does not apply equally to every component of every programme. Degrees in areas such as Social Work, education, coaching or international business may include practical placements, seminars or other compulsory elements.

How does distance learning at Euro-FH work?

Euro-FH's conventional model is a guided form of independent study. Students receive a curriculum and study plan but complete most modules at their own pace within the selected study variant. The Online Campus brings together learning materials, examination administration, appointments, organisational tools and communication with the university.

Digital and printed study materials

At the beginning of the programme, Euro-FH provides study materials digitally and automatically sends the relevant study booklets in printed form as well. From the seventh month onwards, students can decide whether they want to continue receiving printed materials or switch entirely to digital resources.

Depending on the programme and module, learning resources can include:

• printed study booklets and digital academic texts,
• audio and video materials,
• online tutorials and webinars,
• practice and submission assignments,
• learning apps and digital revision tools,
• online libraries and academic databases.

For academic papers, projects and the final thesis, the supplied materials are not sufficient on their own. Independent academic literature research remains part of university study.

Online Campus

The Online Campus is the central organisational platform. Students can use it to:

• access study materials,
• book seminars and tutorials,
• register for examinations,
• monitor progress and examination results,
• access digital libraries and additional learning resources,
• communicate with lecturers and fellow students.

Euro-FH also provides Microsoft Office 365 for the duration of the degree and, depending on the programme, access to further software and academic databases.

KILEA as an AI study companion

KILEA is Euro-FH's AI-based study companion. It works with approved study materials and can answer questions about academic content or direct students to relevant sections of their learning resources.

Its practical value is particularly noticeable outside conventional support hours. Students can, for example, clarify a topic in the evening or use KILEA for structured revision before an examination. It supplements rather than replaces support from subject tutors and the university's study-support team.

How does student support work?

Students have personal contacts for organisational and academic questions. The study-support team assists with the study process, scheduling and organisational issues, while subject-specific questions are handled by tutors and lecturers.

Depending on the module, students can also use tutorials, live chats, online seminars and other interactive formats. How extensively these are used depends largely on personal learning preferences.

The overall study model nevertheless remains self-directed. Euro-FH defines the curriculum and academic framework, but students are responsible for organising their weekly learning time, examination preparation and individual progress.

Distance Learning or Online Evening Study?

Alongside conventional distance learning, Euro-FH offers an Online Evening Study format – called Online-Abendstudium in German – for selected bachelor's degrees. Both models lead to regular university degrees but differ substantially in their weekly structure.

Online Evening Study uses regular evening webinars in small groups. This gives students more external structure than conventional distance learning.

Students working shifts or with frequently changing working hours will generally have more scheduling freedom in conventional distance learning. Students who find it difficult to maintain momentum during long periods of independent study may benefit from the fixed rhythm of Online Evening Study.

How do examinations work at Euro-FH?

Examination scheduling is one of the most flexible parts of Euro-FH's distance-learning model. The university significantly expanded its online examination system in May 2025.

Online examinations around the clock

After registration, online examinations can generally be completed 24 hours a day, seven days a week. Students can therefore schedule an examination for the morning, evening or weekend.

Registration is possible almost every week. The examination platform is unavailable only during a small number of maintenance and update periods each year.

For an online examination, students need:

• a desktop or laptop computer with a current browser,
• a webcam and microphone,
• a stable internet connection,
• a smartphone or tablet for identity verification and the additional camera view,
• the Euro-FH Campus app if handwritten examination components have to be submitted.

The examination is digitally supervised. The technical environment is checked before the assessment begins.

In-person examinations as an alternative

Students who prefer not to use online examinations can continue to take examinations in person. Euro-FH offers these once a month on a Saturday. Up to two examinations can be completed on one examination day.

The university currently lists examination centres in:

• Berlin,

• Nuremberg,
• Stuttgart.

This allows students to choose between remote proctoring and a conventional examination environment.

Which other forms of assessment are used?

Not every module ends with a written examination. Depending on the programme, Euro-FH uses several forms of assessment.

Engineering and technology programmes may additionally use @home laboratories or practical assignments. Social and education-related programmes can include supervised practical phases.

Additional examination attempt during the introductory phase

During the first nine months of study, Euro-FH provides an additional first-attempt protection for modules that were started during the first six months.

If a student fails the first assessment in an eligible module during this period, that attempt does not count towards the three regular assessment attempts. This additional attempt cannot be used to improve the grade of an assessment that has already been passed.

Which study variants are available?

Euro-FH uses several study variants for its distance-learning degrees. They differ mainly in the intended weekly workload and payment structure.

Bachelor's programmes

Students can switch once between Sprint and Standard without an additional fee during the regular study period. This can be useful if employment, family responsibilities or available study time change.

Master's programmes

Master's programmes also offer different study speeds. The exact duration depends on the number of ECTS credits.

Typical structures include:

• 60 ECTS: Sprint often 12 months, Standard around 16 months,
• 90 ECTS: Sprint often 18 months, Standard around 24 months,
• 120 ECTS: Sprint often 24 months, Standard around 32 months.

A Comfort payment option may also be available. The individual programme's current price and duration information is decisive.

Tuition-free extension of up to 50%

If students need more time, the individual standard study period is automatically extended by up to 50% without additional tuition fees.

Examples:

• 36-month standard study period → up to 18 additional months,
• 48-month standard study period → up to 24 additional months,
• 24-month standard study period → up to 12 additional months.

The extension provides additional time rather than an extra regular study phase. Examination regulations and specific module requirements still apply.

Four-week trial period

Students can test the distance-learning programme for four weeks. During this period they receive the regular introductory study materials, access to the Online Campus and KILEA, and the support services available at the start of the programme.

If the student withdraws during the trial period, no tuition fees are charged under the current conditions. If the programme is continued, the contract becomes effective from the original study start and the four trial weeks form part of the regular study period.

The trial period is particularly useful for testing three practical questions:

• Do the study booklets and digital materials match your preferred learning style?
• Can you reserve enough study time every week over a longer period?
• Does the combination of Online Campus, academic support and self-directed learning work for you?

How much does studying at Euro-FH cost?

Tuition fees vary according to the degree, number of ECTS credits and selected study or payment variant. Euro-FH also regularly advertises temporary discounts. The “from” prices displayed on programme pages should therefore not be treated as permanent list prices.

These figures are current promotional or starting prices and are useful primarily for estimating the price range. The binding total tuition amount is stated in the programme-specific price information and study contract.

Why the monthly instalment is not enough for comparison

Students should compare at least four figures:

• monthly instalment,
• payment period,
• total tuition cost,
• standard study period and tuition-free extension.

The Comfort option can, for example, offer a lower monthly payment even though the actual standard study period is the same as in the Standard variant. The lower monthly burden results from spreading the cost over a longer payment period.

Finishing the degree earlier does not necessarily remove the remaining contractual tuition obligation. The agreed total price and contractual conditions are decisive.

Which services are generally included?

• digital and, depending on the selected option, printed study materials,
• access to the Online Campus,
• support from the study-support team and subject tutors,
• regular assessments,
• online tutorials and programme-specific seminars,
• KILEA as an AI study companion,

Possible additional costs

Depending on the programme and personal circumstances, additional costs may arise for:

• computer equipment, smartphone or tablet and internet access,
• additional academic literature,
• travel and accommodation for optional in-person examinations,
• travel and accommodation for compulsory international seminars,
• costs associated with practical placements,
• certificates and supporting documentation for admission or recognition of previous learning.

Financing

Students who select the Sprint variant may be able to apply for German BAföG if they meet the statutory personal requirements. Euro-FH also refers to employer funding, scholarships, education loans and other funding options.

The university currently also provides financial incentives for advance payment. Students should compare these options with monthly payments before signing the study contract.

Which academic fields does Euro-FH cover?

The portfolio ranges from traditional business programmes to psychology, social sciences, education, healthcare, technology, IT and law. Euro-FH also offers numerous university certificates and shorter academic continuing-education programmes.

Which programmes have additional requirements?

The general flexibility of the distance-learning model does not mean that every degree can be completed without compulsory practical or scheduled components.

International Business Administration

The bachelor's degree in International Business Administration includes an international seminar at a partner university abroad as part of the study concept. Students therefore need to account for travel time and potentially additional travel and accommodation costs.

This means that regular learning is largely distance-based, but the programme should not be treated as a degree that can necessarily be completed entirely from home.

Social Work and German professional state recognition

The bachelor's degree in Social Work includes a practical phase connected with German professional state recognition as a social worker or social pedagogue.

Students already working in the social sector should check whether their current workplace or previous practical experience can be taken into account.

The situation is different at master's level. Completing a Master's in Social Work does not by itself replace the requirements for German professional state recognition if those requirements were not already fulfilled through an appropriate bachelor's degree and the required practical experience.

Childhood & Youth Education

Practical professional qualification also plays an important role in this field. The bachelor's programme combines the academic degree with the requirements for the relevant German professional state recognition. Students need to complete the required practical components.

Psychology and psychotherapy

Euro-FH offers bachelor's and master's degrees in Psychology as well as several specialised psychology programmes.

These programmes do not constitute the academic training pathway leading to psychotherapist licensure in Germany. This also applies to Euro-FH master's degrees containing clinical-psychology content where the university does not explicitly provide an approbation-compliant programme.

Students who intend to become licensed psychotherapists in Germany need the legally defined university pathway specifically designed for that profession.

Admission to a bachelor's degree

Euro-FH provides several admission routes to its bachelor's programmes.

With Abitur or Fachhochschulreife

German applicants with an Abitur or Fachhochschulreife can generally enter a bachelor's programme directly. These are German school-leaving qualifications that provide access to higher education. Individual programmes may contain additional requirements such as practical components.

Applicants with school-leaving qualifications from outside Germany need to demonstrate that their qualification provides an equivalent right of access to German higher education.

Without Abitur through an advanced professional qualification

Admission is also possible without Abitur for applicants holding an appropriate German advanced professional qualification. Examples can include:

• Meister – a German master craft qualification,
• Fachwirt or Fachkaufmann qualifications,
• state-certified business administrator,
• state-certified technician,
• comparable advanced qualifications in health, social care or education.

A consultation with the university's academic committee is also part of this access route.

Without Abitur through vocational education and professional experience

Another route is available to applicants who have completed vocational education and subsequently gained at least three years of professional experience.

These students initially enter with guest-student status and must successfully complete the required entrance assessment within the specified period in order to demonstrate their ability to study the chosen subject.

Under certain conditions, time spent caring for children or dependent relatives can count towards the required professional experience.

International qualifications

Applicants with qualifications obtained outside Germany should not assume that a foreign vocational qualification corresponds automatically to a German Meister, Fachwirt, technician qualification or Ausbildung.

The university needs to assess whether the foreign school, vocational or academic qualification meets the applicable admission requirements.

Admission to a master's degree

Most master's programmes require a first university degree. Depending on the programme, additional requirements can include:

• a previous degree in a defined academic subject,
• professional experience,
• English-language proficiency,
• a specified number of previous ECTS credits.

The requirements differ significantly between programmes. An MBA in General Management, for example, may be open to graduates from non-business subjects, whereas an M.Sc. in Psychology normally requires an appropriate previous degree in psychology.

Master's degree without a first university degree

For selected master's programmes, Euro-FH offers a Master's Entry Programme for experienced professionals and managers who do not already hold a bachelor's or equivalent university degree.

This is an exceptional admission route rather than a general substitute for undergraduate study. According to the current requirements, applicants need completed vocational education, at least ten years of professional experience and at least six years of management experience.

The entry programme itself normally takes six months. Successful completion can provide access to selected Euro-FH master's programmes.

International applicants should note that this is a specific German university admission route. Whether a master's degree obtained through this route is subsequently recognised for further study, professional regulation or doctoral admission in another country should be checked separately.

How does recognition of prior learning work?

Previous learning can reduce both the amount of study required and the tuition fees. Students should distinguish between qualifications for which Euro-FH has already defined standard recognition and previous university study that needs to be assessed individually.

Pre-assessed professional qualifications

Recognition arrangements already exist for numerous advanced vocational and professional qualifications. Depending on the degree, these can include German Fachwirt, Betriebswirt, Meister and other advanced qualifications.

In some bachelor's programmes, substantial parts of the curriculum can therefore be recognised. The exact amount depends on the previous qualification and the chosen degree.

Previous university study

Modules completed at another university are assessed individually. Euro-FH generally requires:

• transcripts of records,
• module descriptions,
• ECTS information,
• details of academic content and assessment methods.

If the previous learning is sufficiently equivalent, corresponding modules can be waived.

A vocational qualification does not automatically mean academic credit

Vocational education can be relevant for university admission without necessarily being recognised as academic study.

Euro-FH's current FAQ explicitly states, for example, that German commercial apprenticeships are not currently credited towards university study as a general rule. Programme-specific arrangements can differ: selected professional backgrounds, such as nursing qualifications in relevant programmes, may be recognised.

Can the degree realistically be completed alongside full-time employment?

The Standard variant is specifically designed for part-time study alongside work. For bachelor's and master's programmes, Euro-FH generally calculates around 15 to 20 hours of study per week in the Standard model. Sprint requires approximately 20 to 25 hours.

These are average figures. Actual workload can be higher during examination preparation, academic papers or particularly demanding modules.

Students should reserve weekly time for several activities:

• study booklets and additional academic literature,
• practice and submission assignments,
• tutorials and seminars,
• examination preparation,
• academic and project papers,
• practical placements or programme-specific components,
• the bachelor's or master's thesis.

The 24/7 online examination system mainly solves a scheduling problem. It does not reduce the academic workload of a bachelor's or master's degree.
