Who is the B.A. Social Pedagogy suitable for – and what do you need for admission?

The distance learning course is suitable if you already work in the social or health sector and want to qualify professionally or grow into leadership roles – for example, as an educator, social education worker, social assistant, or in youth and family support. It is also suitable if you want to switch to social work after a commercial or healthcare training and need a flexible study model alongside work or family commitments. You determine your areas of focus, such as working with children/youth/families or with adults, and supplement them methodically with, for example, media, trauma, or hospice pedagogy.

Admission Requirements

You start without NC restrictions and have various routes available – possible with or without Abitur (A-levels). Start your studies at any time, with a duration of 36 or 48 months and extendable support.

  • With general or subject-related university entrance qualification.
  • Without Abitur with a specific professional development examination (e.g. master craftsman, business administrator, or equivalent qualification).
  • Without Abitur with a completed, relevant vocational training and corresponding work experience (access according to state regulations).
  • Recognition of previous achievements: Previous education and training, relevant professional experience, voluntary work, or freelance activities, as well as credits from prior studies, can exempt you from modules and practical periods.
  • Specific recognitions: As a state-recognized educator, you will receive 38 credits (including four modules) and 50% of the practical phase recognized; as a state-recognized social education worker, 50% of the practical phase (equivalent to 14 credits) will be credited. 40 € will be credited for each credit.
  • Practical phase: The 100-day practical phase required for state recognition is integrated into the study programme and can be partially credited based on prior qualifications.

Personal Requirements

Genuine motivation for social work, empathy, and reflective ability are important – as well as robust self-organization. Plan realistically and in blocks: Learning windows during the week plus a focused slot on weekends work well for many professionals. Depending on the schedule and exam rhythm, you should invest several hours per week continuously; the effort increases significantly during exam and submission phases. Helpful are:

  • Structured weekly planning with fixed study times and buffer times.
  • Persistence for longer online phases and willingness to consistently implement theory in practical projects.
  • Communication skills for counseling situations and teamwork – also digitally.
  • Dealing with performance pressure: Exams are monthly, plan accordingly but do not overload your calendar.

If you set clear milestone goals, use feedback from compact seminars effectively, and schedule exams realistically, you can combine studies well with work and family – especially in the 48-month model. The key is less speed and more consistency in your daily learning routine.

There are only a few, plannable compact seminars, mostly online - no regular on-campus attendance obligation. Mandatory is the 100-day practical phase at an accredited social work institution, which is an integral part of the study program and is required for state recognition.

Time Models, Workload, and Extension

In the 36-month model, you should expect to dedicate about 20-25 hours per week; in the 48-month model, it's more likely to be 12-18 hours. This fits better alongside work and family commitments. A free extension of 18 or 24 months is planned - helpful for shift work, caregiving, or project peaks.

How much does the Bachelor of Social Pedagogy at Euro-FH cost?

Regular tuition fees start at €259 monthly (depending on the time model). The total costs are spread over 36 or 48 months. The free extension (18 or 24 months) does not incur additional tuition fees - extended duration without extra costs is factored in.

Additional costs may be incurred individually, e.g. for specialized literature, travel to on-site exams, possible certifications, or printing the thesis. By crediting previous achievements, you can save: State-recognized educators receive 38 credits (including 50% of the practical phase) recognized, and social education workers 50% of the practical phase; €40 is credited per credit.

Tuition fees are generally tax-deductible as work-related expenses or special expenses. Employers can contribute to the costs - especially in the social sector - which is particularly worthwhile if the practical phase is completed in-house.

Who benefits from the Bachelor of Social Pedagogy - and who doesn't?

The program is beneficial if you want to enter the field of social work part-time or elevate your work to a bachelor's level with state recognition. The combination of distance learning, monthly flexible exams, and integrated practical training suits many life situations.

  • If you want to study flexibly alongside work or family commitments - with online materials, webinars, and monthly exam dates.
  • If you aim for state recognition and wish to integrate a 100-day practical phase into your studies.
  • If you prefer to set specific priorities (adults vs. children/youth/family plus 2 methodological specializations).
  • If you want to have previous credits (e.g. educator training, social education, work experience) recognized to save time/costs.
  • If you value predictable on-campus presence - few compact seminars, mostly online.

A private distance learning program is not suitable for every situation. If you need maximum cost savings or have a very limited weekly time budget, you should consider alternatives.

  • If you are unable to apply any practical training: The 100 days of practical work are mandatory for graduation and state recognition - it is not possible without a suitable placement.

  • If you are only looking for face-to-face teaching in a fixed group: The format is primarily digital and self-organized, with seminars usually conducted online.
  • If only very low fees are a top priority: Private universities are generally more expensive than state universities and colleges.
