The Master of Arts programme in Social Work at the European Distance Learning University in Hamburg complements the existing undergraduate offering in this field. This distance learning programme can be completed on a full-time or part-time basis and focuses on the impact of societal changes on the field of Social Work. Topics covered include sustainability, digitalisation, migration, societal change, and transformation.

The programme examines the various levels in Social Work, ranging from society as the initiator, through organisations and institutions as structures, to clients as recipients. The following competence areas are covered: changes in living conditions and environments, new research concepts (e.g. transformation, networks), digitalisation, migration, economic models, the understanding of Social Work and one's own socio-pedagogical leadership personality, changes in the working world, as well as specific concepts and methods for coping with transformations.

The programme is aimed at graduates with a Bachelor's degree in Social Work or comparable educational qualifications such as childhood and youth pedagogy, special needs education, or educational science. Students either want to expand their own qualifications or develop and implement innovative concepts for the future of Social Work, particularly with regard to leadership positions in institutions and organisations.

In addition to using study booklets, the programme includes three seminars (either in person or virtually), three webinars, as well as various digital teaching and learning units such as educational films and podcasts to support the learning process.
