The Bachelor's degree programme "Childhood and Youth Pedagogy" comprises a four-year part-time programme offered by the European Distance University Hamburg. The course provides students with a combination of theoretical and practical training content. The aim is to impart scientific and application-oriented knowledge and to develop professional skills for working with children and young people aged 0 to 14 years.
The curriculum includes the connection of educational and pedagogical topics, methodological and didactic skills, as well as relevant research content. There is also a focus on basic management principles for institutions involved in child and youth care. The teaching methods include the use of study guides, face-to-face seminars, webinars, online seminars, as well as digital teaching formats such as instructional videos and online tutorials. A 100-day practical phase enables students to conceptualise, conduct, and evaluate their own "teaching-learning-research project."
This programme is aimed at individuals with a professionally relevant vocational training who are seeking further academic qualifications, as well as at those without a background in education who are or intend to work in the field of childhood and youth pedagogy. The programme is accredited by the Accreditation Council and seamlessly fits into the university's overall range of study programmes, which includes a total of 15 bachelor's and 15 master's degree programmes, expanding the offerings with an additional educational programme.
The accreditation of the programme by the Accreditation Council is valid until 31st January 2029. The review panel evaluates the programme concept positively, highlighting the didactic design, the wealth of available resources, the individual study organisation, and the diverse possibilities for content design.
