Admission requirements
- You have completed a first degree and a professionally relevant course of study at a state or state-recognized university with typically 180 Credit Points. Especially relevant are Social Work, Social Pedagogy, Childhood Education, Educational Science, Special Education, Teaching, and comparable courses of study.
- Furthermore, you have at least one year of qualified professional experience after your first degree.
- You have sufficient English language skills at level B2 according to the Common European Framework of Reference for Languages.

The Master's programme "Counselling Psychology and Psychological Therapy Approaches" at the European Distance University Hamburg enables graduates to exploratively and communicatively capture and classify individual problem situations of clients. They learn to identify counselling goals and develop, implement and evaluate tailored counselling concepts. The aim is to acquire communicative action and reflection competencies in order to enable a continuous engagement with oneself in one's own role and actions.
The programme can be completed in two versions, each with 120 or 60 ECTS credits. The 120-ECTS version is aimed at professionals from educational, social pedagogical, and social contexts with a relevant bachelor's degree, who are aiming for academic further qualification at master's level. The 60-ECTS version, on the other hand, requires existing relevant psychological education and is intended for graduates of a bachelor's degree in psychology who are interested in therapeutic approaches and want to use them in their counselling professional practice.
The programme is offered in distance learning mode and lasts a total of 24 months. Teaching at the European Distance University Hamburg is designed through various methods such as role-playing in virtual meetings, submission of videos, and online counselling.
This accredited programme enables participants to further develop their professional skills in the field of counselling and psychological therapy at master's level.
