The Bachelor's programme in Applied Social Sciences offers the following specialisations: Sociology, Politics, Economics & Society. It is conducted as a distance learning course and can be completed on a full-time or part-time basis (while working) as well as in a dual study mode, also available in full-time and part-time options.

The aim of the programme is to provide students with a broad foundational knowledge in various social science disciplines and their different perspectives and analytical strategies. Students will acquire foundational knowledge in sociology, political science, economics, communication science, and social psychology. Additionally, they will gain a deeper insight into the interaction of various societal sectors to understand and analyse the interrelation of social phenomena.

A particular focus of the programme is on imparting practical and labor-market-relevant skills and competencies. This includes a thorough training in social scientific methods, their practical application, and methodological critique. Moreover, vocational skills and knowledge transfer are provided. Especially in the practical project, students have the opportunity to apply and deepen their acquired knowledge reflectively.

The target group primarily includes career starters and professionals with an interest in social science issues related to societal connections and current social and political challenges, as well as a passion for analytical and empirical work. The programme is aimed, for example, at professionals in public administrations, non-profit organizations, or private companies who have not yet obtained an academic qualification and/or individuals looking to further qualify themselves for an upcoming career step.

Didactically, in addition to the use of study booklets, four presence or virtual seminars, webinars, as well as online seminars are planned. Various digital components will also be offered. Supportive online tutorials are intended for the joint exploration of the study content by students and instructors.

The programme is accredited by the Accreditation Council. The accreditation is valid until 31st October 2031 and particularly praises the flexible study organization that enables working professionals to individually structure and pursue their studies.
