Admission requirements

  • Applicants must have a general university entrance qualification or a subject-specific entrance qualification.
  • Alternatively, applicants can also demonstrate a professional development examination in the relevant field or a completed vocational training as well as at least 3 years of professional experience.

Details

The distance learning course "Social Work" offers a comprehensive introduction to studying and academic work. Participants gain insights into the fundamentals of social work as well as various fields of action and target groups. Pedagogical and psychological basics are conveyed, as well as ethical aspects and reflective professionalism. Communication, mediation, and counseling are important components of the course.

Furthermore, participants are introduced to research methods, legal foundations, sociological basics, as well as intercultural and diverse aspects. Individual case work and case management, health-related and medical basics, as well as practice-related topics are also covered.

During the course, participants complete a practical phase and have the opportunity to specialize in various focus areas. These include, among others, law, social area and locally based work, method specialization, group work, and project management.

In addition, topics such as professional occupational identity, quality management, evaluation, and the management of social institutions are addressed. The course concludes with the preparation of a bachelor thesis.

Upon successful completion of the course, participants can obtain the title Bachelor of Arts and will be recognized as social educators and social workers. The duration of the course is 36 months, with face-to-face seminars on 9 days in Hamburg (72 hours) and online seminars on 4 dates (26 hours) provided.
