Admission requirements
Admission is granted to those who have a basic degree (Bachelor, Diploma, or equivalent) with an overall grade of 2.0 in social work programs and typically have at least 15 hours, but no more than 30 hours, of professional experience in a field of social work that can be clearly attributed to the thematic focus of the Master's program. If the average grade is lower than 2.0, admission interviews will be conducted to decide on acceptance or rejection.
Admission requires that the necessary prerequisites were acquired in the preceding first professional qualifying university course. Usually, this is demonstrated by a relevant basic degree in a Bachelor's program with at least 210 credit points according to ECTS.
Alternatively, admission can be granted to those with a degree from another scientific discipline that can be assigned to the contents of the Master's program, as well as at least four years of relevant professional experience in the field of education.
Details
The Master's program in Social Work with a focus on Education is a part-time, consecutive blended learning program. It is aimed at individuals who have a bachelor's degree in a relevant field and wish to further their professional qualifications. The program combines internet-based discursive study through a learning platform with on-site days held as block events.
The on-site days are spread over four modules, each with two study days, and expand by an additional day in the first semester. A hands-on research project accompanied by instructors is an integral part of the program. The focus is on education in all life phases outside the school setting. Differentiation-sensitive action and research approaches are combined to meet the diverse conditions of education in our society and the resulting didactic challenges.
One-third of the modules cover general competencies in the field of theory and research in social work as well as leadership and management. Two-thirds are focused on education. The concept of individual learning agreements allows students to set their personal priorities regarding their qualification goals based on shared foundational knowledge.
The program qualifies graduates for roles as educational consultants in various non-school educational institutions. Additionally, career paths open up in educational management, educational planning, and scientific work in research institutions. The degree also enables enrollment in the doctoral program at the Social Work Doctoral Center of the Hessian Universities of Applied Sciences.
