These are the requirements for the Bachelor Sustainable Design
For the B.A. Sustainable Design at Wilhelm Bücher University, there are various access options:
Access Option No. 1: You have the general higher education entrance qualification (Abitur), the subject-specific higher education entrance qualification, or the subject-specific higher education entrance qualification.
Access Option No. 2: You have a university admission qualification recognized as equivalent by the Hessian Ministry of Culture (e.g. a master's degree or a qualification as a state-certified technician).
Access Option No. 3: Studying as an auditor: You start your guest studies at our university without the mentioned three accesses and take the university entrance examination after 2 performance semesters. For this, you must meet all of the following requirements:
- You have completed at least a two-year vocational training in a field related to the desired course of study, regulated by the Vocational Training Act, the Crafts Code, or federal or state law.
- You have subsequently worked for at least two years full-time in a field related to the desired course of study.
If you aim for a course of study that is not related to the completed training or professional activity, the knowledge acquired through training and professional activity must be extended or deepened by qualified further training with a minimum of 400 hours in a field related to the desired course of study.
After successfully passing the university entrance examination, we will change your status from auditor to regular student.

These are the study contents and course structure
Your Bachelor's degree programme in Sustainable Design at WBH is structurally modular. You study thematically closed content areas (modules) to which credit points are assigned according to the European Credit Transfer System (ECTS). The number of credit points assigned to each module depends on the scope of the module and the associated workload. All credit points you earn will be credited to you and you will receive a certificate for them. Your achievements are thus comparable and recognised internationally.
The course is structured as follows:
- 1st Semester: Introduction and orientation project, drawing techniques, media technical foundations and design theory, scientific work, creative methods
- 2nd Semester: Intercultural communication, law and profession, design history and theory, agile project management, storyboarding and narration
- 3rd Semester: Basics of economics and marketing, semiotics and aesthetics, basics of sustainability, software for industrial design, model building techniques
- 4th Semester: Shaping and materials science, project: sustainability, transport as a service, design research, seminar
- 5th Semester: Specialisation area module 1, project work, practical phase
- 6th Semester: Specialisation area module 2, specialisation area project, elective area, bachelor thesis and colloquium
At the beginning of the course or during the course, you will also choose one of these specialisations: Social Design, Circular Design, Entrepreneurship.
You will choose the elective module from these topics: Digital Ethics, Human Centred Design, Brand Management and Theory of the Brand.
