These are the requirements for the Bachelor's in Industrial Design

For the B.A. in Industrial Design at Wilhelm Bücher University, there are various ways to gain admission:

Admission Option No. 1: You have the general higher education entrance qualification (Abitur), the subject-specific higher education entrance qualification, or the restricted higher education entrance qualification.

Admission Option No. 2: You have a university admission qualification recognised as equivalent by the Hessian Ministry of Culture (e.g. a master's degree or a qualification as a state-certified technician).

Admission Option No. 3: Study as a guest student: You start your guest studies at our university without the three mentioned accesses and take the university entrance examination after 2 academic semesters. To do this, you must meet all of the following requirements:

  1. You have completed at least a two-year professional training in a field related to the desired study course according to the Vocational Training Act, the Craft Code, or regulated by federal or state law.
  2. You have subsequently worked for at least two years full-time in a field related to the desired study course.

If you aim to study a subject that is not related to your completed training or professional experience, the knowledge acquired through training and work must be expanded or deepened through qualified further training with a workload of at least 400 hours in a subject related to the desired study course. After passing the university entrance examination, we will change your status from guest student to regular student.

Your Bachelor's degree program in Industrial Design at the WBH is structured in modules. You study thematically self-contained subject areas (modules) to which credit points are assigned according to the European Credit Transfer System (ECTS). The number of credit points assigned to each module depends on the scope of the module and the associated workload. All credit points you earn will be credited to you, and you will receive a certificate to that effect. Your achievements are thus comparable and recognized - also internationally.

The course of study is structured as follows:

  • 1st Semester: Introduction and orientation project, drawing techniques, media-technical basics and design theory, scientific work, creative methods
  • 2nd Semester: Intercultural communication, law and profession, design history and theory, agile project management, storyboarding and narration
  • 3rd Semester: Basics of economics and marketing, semiotics and aesthetics, basics of product design, software for industrial design, model-making techniques
  • 4th Semester: Design and material science, human-centered design, consumer goods, project: investment goods, seminar
  • 5th Semester: Specialization module 1, project work, practical professional phase
  • 6th Semester: Specialization module 2, specialization project, elective area, bachelor's thesis and colloquium

At the beginning of the study or during the course of study, you can also choose one of these specializations: XR, inclusion, entrepreneurship.

You choose the elective module from these topics: Digital ethics, basics of sustainability or brand management and brand theory.
