These are the requirements for the Bachelor's in Game Design

For the B.A. Game Design at Wilhelm Bücher University, there are different access options:

Access Option No. 1: You have the general higher education entrance qualification (Abitur), the subject-specific higher education entrance qualification, or the restricted higher education entrance qualification.

Access Option No. 2: You have a university entrance qualification recognized as equivalent by the Hessian Ministry of Culture (e.g. a master's degree or a qualification as a state-certified technician).

Access Option No. 3: Studying as an Auditing Student: You start your auditing studies at our university without the three mentioned access options and take the university entrance examination after 2 academic semesters. To do this, you must meet all of the following requirements:

  1. You have completed at least a two-year vocational training in a field related to the desired course of study as regulated by the Vocational Training Act, the Crafts Code, or federal or state law.
  2. You have subsequently worked full-time for at least two years in a field related to the desired course of study.

If you aim for a course of study that is not related to the completed training or professional activity, the knowledge acquired through training and professional activity must be expanded or deepened by qualified further education in a field related to the desired course of study with a minimum of 400 hours.

After successfully passing the university entrance examination, we will change your status from auditing student to regular student.

Your Bachelor's degree program in Game Design at WBH is structured in a modular way. You will study thematically closed material areas (modules) to which credit points are assigned according to the European Credit Transfer System (ECTS). The number of credit points assigned to each module depends on the scope of the module and the associated workload. All credit points you earn will be credited to you, and you will receive confirmation of this. Your achievements are therefore comparable and recognized – even internationally.

The course of study is structured as follows:

  • 1st Semester: Introduction and orientation project, drawing techniques, media technology basics and design theory, scientific work, creative methods
  • 2nd Semester: Intercultural communication, law and profession, design history and theory, agile project management, storyboarding and narration
  • 3rd Semester: Fundamentals of business and marketing, semiotics and aesthetics, game design, game design production tools, game design project (technical)
  • 4th Semester: Game design methods, game technology, level design, game design project (narrative), seminar
  • 5th Semester: Specialisation module 1, project work, practical phase
  • 6th Semester: Specialisation module 2, project specialisation, elective area, bachelor thesis and colloquium

At the beginning of the course or during the course of study, you will also choose one of the following specializations: Serious Games or Analog Games.

You will choose the elective module from these topics: Digital Ethics, Human-Centered Design, Design Research.
