Admission requirements

The admission requirements for the Master's in Modern German Literature in the context of media culture require a successfully completed degree in the fields of humanities, cultural studies, and social sciences at a university within the framework of the Higher Education Act with a duration of at least six semesters or an equivalent degree outside the scope of the Higher Education Act. The course of study, including the thesis, must be completed with at least a good grade (2.49 or better).

The course "Modern German Literature in the Context of Media Culture" is part of the Master of Arts program at the FernUniversität in Hagen. The course lasts for four semesters and is offered on a part-time basis. It is aimed at students who want to engage intensively with contemporary literary works in relation to media and culture.

Within this course, modern German literary texts are analyzed and placed in the context of media culture. Students explore how modern technologies and media influence the production, dissemination, and reception of literature. Theoretical concepts are discussed alongside practical examples from the current literary landscape.

The aim of the course is to provide participants with a deeper understanding of the interactions between literature and media. Upon completion of the course, students should be able to analyze complex texts, recognize media-cultural connections, and draw informed conclusions.

The course is accredited by the Agency for Quality Assurance and Accreditation of Study Programs (AQAS) and is valid until September 2024. The course is taught in German and therefore requires a solid language proficiency in German.
