The bachelor's degree programme in Special Needs Education and Inclusion is exclusively aimed at individuals who have successfully completed training as a state-recognized special needs educator in Germany.
Proof of one of the following higher education entrance qualifications enables direct admission:
- General or subject-related higher education entrance qualification (A-levels) and training as a state-recognized special needs educator in Germany
- Technical college entrance qualification (school-based and practical part) and training as a state-recognized special needs educator in Germany
Alternatively, you can also enroll without A-levels. Enrolling in IU without A-levels is possible under the following conditions:
- Completed qualified training as a state-recognized special needs educator in Germany
For foreign students interested in studying in German, proof of German language skills is required for the study programme. The proof must be provided before the start of studies and should generally be no more than five years old.

Study Concept: How the Part-Time Degree Program in Special Needs Education and Inclusion at IU Works
You can adapt the online program in Special Needs Education and Inclusion at IU International University flexibly to fit your life and daily routine as best suits you. For example, you can choose from 3 study models: In the full-time study, it takes a total of 3 semesters, equivalent to 18 months, to complete your Bachelor's degree. In part-time study I, you study for 4 semesters until graduation. Or you can opt for part-time study II and take 6 semesters to complete your Bachelor's.
With each module enrollment, you receive printed study materials from IU. All materials are also available digitally. The IU Interactive Books are innovative learning scripts enriched with video clips and end-of-lesson quiz questions. Depending on the module, the study materials are supplemented with podcasts, live tutorials, and video content in the form of shortcasts. You access the IU Interactive Books through the convenient IU Learn app.
In many modules, virtual lectures are also offered, allowing you to interactively engage with your peers and instructors.
One particularly convenient and flexible feature is the option to take module exams in the form of online exams. You can take an online exam 7 days a week, around the clock, at the time when you feel best prepared for the exam, for example, in building construction. Additionally, we operate around 40 exam centers in Germany, Austria, and Switzerland where you can also take your exams in the traditional in-person format.
