The CVJM University is a state-recognized private University of Applied Sciences in Kassel, founded on March 27, 2009. It is supported by the YMCA Germany, part of the global YMCA network. 

The university maintains a Christian-Evangelical profile and integrates theology, humanities and social sciences, as well as basic management knowledge. Research, internationality and practical application are integral parts of the educational mission. It offers a practice-oriented, scientifically based education in the fields of social work, community education, and theology with state and church-recognized degrees. 

Its range of studies includes bachelor's and master's programs, including integrated courses such as Religious and Community Education / Social Work (B.A.), as well as part-time or practice-integrated study programs. The Master's program "Transformation Studies: Public Theology & Social Work (M.A.)" is aimed at professionals in church and social change. In addition to professional skills, the university also conveys personality development and Christian values orientation.

Sustainability is a central cross-cutting theme of the CVJM University. The "SE:ED" project set up a sustainability office in 2022. The university integrates education for sustainable development (ESD) in teaching, research, operations, and transfer and is committed to social-ecological transformation in Kassel and beyond.

To ensure quality, the university maintains a comprehensive evaluation system with internal and external processes. The University Council and Scientific Advisory Board provide regular advice. Digital tools such as a campus management system support administration and study organization. The university places great emphasis on student participation and short communication channels.

In addition, the CVJM University operates the CVJM Academy gGmbH as an institute for training and further education. Further training courses with university certificates, e.g. in adventure education or FreshX, complement the academic offer.

It is a member of the International Coalition of YMCA Universities and cooperates with partner universities worldwide, including within the framework of Erasmus+ and DAAD. Memberships in scientific societies underline its networking in the academic sector.
