The University of Wuppertal was founded in 1972 and has since become an important educational and research institution in Germany. The university was established as a comprehensive university as part of the North Rhine-Westphalian higher education reform, aiming to combine practical training with scientific research. In 2003, it was given its current name. The University of Wuppertal offers a wide range of degree programs in the fields of natural sciences, engineering, economics, humanities and social sciences, as well as design and art. In addition to traditional bachelor's and master's programs, there are also various continuing education and doctoral opportunities.
The university is divided into eight faculties:
1. Faculty of Humanities and Cultural Studies
2. Faculty of Human and Social Sciences
3. Faculty of Mathematics and Natural Sciences
4. Faculty of Business and Economics - Schumpeter School of Business and Economics
5. Faculty of Architecture and Civil Engineering
6. Faculty of Electrical, Information and Media Technology
7. Faculty of Mechanical Engineering and Safety Engineering
8. Faculty of Design and Art
