The West Saxon University of Applied Sciences Zwickau (WHZ) positions itself under the motto "University of Mobility" as a multidisciplinary academic educational and research institution. Its range of programs combines engineering, business, and social science courses with a special focus on sustainability. With over 50 bachelor's, master's, and diploma programs distributed across the locations Zwickau, Schneeberg, and Markneukirchen, and around 2900 students, WHZ is a significant pillar of the Saxon university landscape.
The university is one of the most research-intensive universities of applied sciences in Germany. Located in the "Electromobility Capital of Europe" and the traditional automotive city of Zwickau, WHZ benefits from a strong network of national and international partners as well as locally based companies. These connections create optimal conditions for hands-on research and teaching.
The eight faculties of WHZ contribute to an interdisciplinary and application-oriented educational approach with their diverse range of study and research programs. Unique in Saxony is the diploma program in Sign Language Interpreting, while nationally only WHZ provides comprehensive education in the fields of Wood Design and Musical Instrument Making. The university accompanies all aspects of the value chain from initial idea development to market launch and serial production. This holistic approach is supported by interdisciplinary teamwork and sustainable synergies.
WHZ sees itself as an open-minded institution actively opposed to discrimination and promoting equal opportunities. It constructively harnesses the diversity and potential of its members to make a valuable contribution to regional development through its educational, research, and transfer activities. The goal is to prepare students optimally for professional life and to keep researchers and educators up-to-date with the latest developments in science. The university actively supports the scientific, economic, social, cultural, and political life of the region, thereby contributing to addressing regional challenges.
