The Christian-Albrechts-University in Kiel (CAU), founded in 1665, is the only full university in Schleswig-Holstein. Offering a wide range of subjects from agricultural sciences to dentistry, it provides a comprehensive academic education in a total of 190 courses. The CAU follows the motto "Pax Optima Rerum" ("Peace is the highest of all goods"), which shapes its mission to promote peace, prosperity, and a pluralistic, free society.

The university is known for its interdisciplinary research and has developed four dynamic focal points: marine sciences, life sciences, society, environment and culture in transition, as well as nanosciences and surface research. These focal points contribute to addressing global challenges and strengthen the CAU's reputation as a research-intensive institution. Through its close collaboration with business, politics, and society, the university actively engages in knowledge transfer and the development of innovative solutions.

The range of courses at CAU is characterized by diversity and quality. In addition to traditional subjects such as medicine and law, the university offers applied courses such as agricultural and nutritional sciences or materials and technology sciences. A special focus is on teacher education, with 21 disciplines and 5,100 teacher training students making CAU the largest teacher training university in Schleswig-Holstein.

The international orientation of CAU is underlined by its membership in the "European University of the Seas" (SEA-EU). This network connects universities from the Mediterranean to the Arctic Circle, offering students exchange and mobility programs as well as intercultural events. In addition, CAU promotes educational participation of various target groups through initiatives such as junior studies, guest auditors, and continuing education programs.

With over 350 years of history, the CAU has evolved from a regional school to a modern international research center. It remains true to its claim of contributing to peace, sustainability, and securing the livelihoods of future generations through scientific excellence and social engagement.
