The University of Applied Sciences Kaiserslautern is a university with a focus on technology, business, design, and health. Computer science serves as an integrating cross-sectional competence. Approximately 5500 students from more than 80 nations are trained in five departments at the three locations in Kaiserslautern, Pirmasens, and Zweibrücken. About 150 professors and around 430 staff members support a diverse range of study and research programs.

The university, whose origins date back to the 19th century, was founded as an independent institution in 1996 and has since evolved into a research-strong and practice-oriented educational institution. Its offering includes over 80 degree programs, including bachelor's, master's, and further education programs in fields such as natural and engineering sciences, design, business, as well as information and communication sciences. Many programs are designed to be practical, interdisciplinary, and flexible to meet the needs of a heterogeneous student body. Furthermore, several English-language master's programs are offered.

One particular strength of the University of Applied Sciences Kaiserslautern lies in promoting internationality: collaborations with more than 100 partner universities worldwide enable the exchange of students and teachers. In addition to regionally anchored study programs, such as in leather and textile technology or business and law, the university offers innovative programs such as Digital Engineering, Biomedical Micro Engineering, and Virtual Design.

Dual and part-time study models as well as an extensive e-learning offering, including virtual labs, enable flexible and contemporary learning conditions.

In applied research, the university distinguishes itself with four research focal points: Integrated miniaturized systems (IMS), Reliable software-intensive systems (ZUSIS), Sustainable products and services (NAPUD), and Highly efficient technical systems (HTS). These research focuses combine interdisciplinary approaches with socially relevant topics. The research profile is complemented by specialized institutes and collaborations, such as the "Weincampus Neustadt" or the Westpfalz Institute for Plastic Technology.

Furthermore, the university is highly engaged in the field of continuing education. It offers 24 degree programs with bachelor's or master's degrees as well as certificates that are based on the blended learning model. These programs are specifically tailored to the needs of working professionals and combine flexible self-study phases with face-to-face events.
