The Technical University of Applied Scienes Würzburg-Schweinfurt (THWS) is one of the largest technical universities in Bavaria and offers a diverse, practice-oriented range of courses. The university follows a technically-oriented, interdisciplinary approach and combines this with an international, digital, and application-oriented profile.
The THWS is located at two sites in northern Bavaria: Würzburg and Schweinfurt. It is divided into ten faculties, seven of which have a technical focus. In total, THWS offers over 60 bachelor's and master's programmes - including many in the STEM field (Science, Technology, Engineering, and Mathematics), as well as programmes in social work, business, languages, and design.
In Schweinfurt, you will find the faculties of Electrical Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, Industrial Engineering, and the Faculty of Applied Natural and Human Sciences. In Würzburg, the faculties of Social Sciences, Architecture and Civil Engineering, Design, Computer Science and Business Informatics, Plastics Engineering and Surveying, the THWS Business School, and also Applied Natural and Human Sciences are located.
The university has 16 technical research institutes and is heavily involved in the Bavarian High-Tech Agenda, particularly in the areas of artificial intelligence and robotics. The renaming to Technical University reflects this technical focus and strengthens both the external perception of the university and its position in the scientific and economic environment.
A special offering is the THWS Online Campus, which provides fully digital courses with high flexibility. Courses include Software Engineering (B.Sc., German) and Health and Environmental Psychology (B.Sc., English). All online courses are structured in a semester format and combine synchronous live sessions with asynchronous learning. Examinations can be taken entirely online. The learning platform enables interaction with lecturers and fellow students, creating a true campus experience despite spatial independence.
Requirements for enrolling in a bachelor's programme at THWS include general or subject-specific university entrance qualification, a technical college entrance qualification, or an equivalent qualification. For master's programmes such as Geodata Technology, a relevant bachelor's degree with a minimum grade of 2.7 is required. International applicants can obtain university entrance qualification through an online Pre-Year Programme at the German Jordanian University in selected programmes.
THWS places a strong emphasis on practical training, modern technical equipment, and close collaboration with industry, business, and international partners. Its interdisciplinary approach and the combination of technical, economic, social, and design study offerings make it a forward-thinking educational institution in the heart of Bavaria.
