The Technische Hochschule Mittelhessen (THM) was founded in 1971 and today is one of the largest Universities of Applied Sciences in Germany. With around 15,000 students, it is the largest of the five state universities of applied sciences in Hesse. The university offers a contemporary and practice-oriented range of courses implemented in twelve departments and through the dual study program "StudiumPlus".

The THM is rooted in Mittelhessen and operates in a supra-regional and international environment. It has three main campuses in Gießen, Friedberg, and Wetzlar, as well as six other Hessian external locations. The Mittelhessen region, characterized by the Lahn River and in close proximity to Frankfurt am Main, offers a high quality of life and economic strength.

The THM's course offerings include 39 bachelor's and 44 master's programs. The engineering sciences are particularly well represented, complemented by fields such as computer science, biosciences, health, and management. The dual study program "StudiumPlus" enables a close connection between theory and practice by allowing students to work in companies alongside their studies. Approximately 2,732 international students from over 110 countries enrich the academic life at the university.

In addition to teaching, research plays a central role at the THM. Eight interdisciplinary competence centers bundle application-oriented and transfer-oriented research, often carried out in cooperation with companies from the region. Research focuses include biotechnology, renewable energies, automotive, and aerospace applications. In collaboration with the universities in Gießen and Marburg, the THM enables cooperative doctoral programs and, as one of the first Universities of Applied Sciences in Germany, operates its own doctoral center with the right to confer a Doctor of Engineering degree.

The university places great emphasis on internationalization and maintains partnerships with over 100 universities worldwide. International exchange programs promote the acquisition of intercultural skills among students, lecturers, and staff. In 2022, more than 2,800 international students chose to study at the THM.

As a modern learning and living environment, the THM offers a diverse university life. In addition to regular studies, students have access to numerous counseling services, including psychological support and individual study counseling. The university sports program offers a wide range of courses, and MakerSpaces in Gießen and Friedberg enable students to realize their own projects. Numerous events and networking opportunities foster exchange within the university community.

Another focus of the THM is on professional development. In addition to traditional degree programs, it offers distance learning programs in the fields of facility management, logistics, and industrial engineering. Degrees are available as Master of Science, Master of Business Administration and Engineering, or as certificates. Furthermore, the university supports startups through counseling services, patent applications, and knowledge transfer to the economy.

The THM's mission statement is based on the four core values of motivation, quality, agility, and diversity. Respect and appreciation are central elements of the university culture, which are lived out in both teaching and research. The university actively advocates for educational justice and equal opportunities, fostering an open and innovation-friendly environment for students, researchers, and staff.
