The Gottfried Wilhelm Leibniz University of Hannover (LUH) is one of the leading universities in Germany and is located in Hannover, Lower Saxony. The university was founded in 1831 as the "Higher Trade School in Hannover" and became a Technical University in 1879. Since January 1, 2024, it has been a public law foundation. Today, LUH has approximately 27,229 students (as of the winter semester 2023/24) and employs 5,276 staff, including 357 professors (as of 2022).
Memberships in networks such as TU9, TIME, and CESAER underscore LUH's international connections, offering 86 degree programmes and interdisciplinary research across a wide range of disciplines. These range from engineering and natural sciences to architecture and environmental planning, as well as law, economics, social sciences, and humanities.
