The FernUni Switzerland is a university accredited under the Higher Education Funding and Coordination Act (HFKG), and is one of the leading providers of distance learning courses in Switzerland. Since its founding in 1992 and federal recognition in 2004, FernUni Switzerland has offered flexible study models that allow students to balance academic goals with work, family, or other commitments.
With around 2300 students and a team of 420 staff members, including approximately 350 in teaching and research, FernUni Switzerland offers bachelor's and master's degree programs as well as further education programs in the faculties of Law, Economics, Mathematics and Computer Science, History, and Psychology. The study programs are available in German, French, and English, enjoying national and international recognition. They meet the highest academic standards and qualify students for further studies, academic careers, or the job market.
Internationalization is a central part of FernUni Switzerland's strategy. It maintains partnerships with several foreign universities, including a long-standing collaboration with the Université TELUQ in Canada, and is a member of international networks such as the European Association of Distance Teaching Universities (EADTU), the Fédération Interuniversitaire de l'Enseignement à Distance (FIED), the International Council for Open and Distance Education (ICDE), and the European Distance and E-Learning Network (EDEN). Through these collaborations, FernUni Switzerland contributes to the advancement of virtual mobility and e-learning and enhances its international visibility.
The university systematically supports the international networking of its researchers and lecturers, who have significant international experience. Research focuses on sustainable distance learning models and network-supported teaching and learning, among other topics. FernUni Switzerland leads in international projects on these themes and supports the submission of research proposals to international institutions.
With its flexible, multilingual study model and integration of global perspectives, FernUni Switzerland is attractive not only to national but also international students. A planned International Relations Office, which will be attached to the Vice-Rectorate for Research, aims to strengthen this focus further. In the meantime, Dr. Damien Carron, Director of Academic Services, is available as a contact person for internationalization matters.
