The Alice Salomon University of Applied Sciences Berlin (ASH Berlin) is the largest state university in Germany with a focus on the SAGE professions - Social Work, Health, and Education. It is a research-active and practice-oriented university with a strong interdisciplinary profile and international focus.

Founded with roots in the 19th century, ASH Berlin traces back to the "Social Women's School" established by Alice Salomon in 1908, which significantly shaped the systematic training in social work. Despite severe setbacks during the Nazi era, the university was able to be rebuilt after 1945 and has carried the name of its founder again since 1992.

Today, the university offers bachelor's and master's programmes in the fields of Social Work, Early Childhood Education, Nursing, Health Management, and Public Health. The connection between theory and practice is emphasized, as well as the promotion of diversity, gender mainstreaming, family-friendliness, health promotion, and sustainability.

The university is divided into two faculties: Faculty I for Social Work with over 2,800 students and 51 professorships, and Faculty II for Health, Education, and Training with around 1,100 students and 31 professorships. It offers a wide range of study programmes, including part-time and dual study programmes.

The university's mission is based on participatively developed principles focusing on diversity, gender equality, health-promoting working and studying conditions, and sustainable development. Research, teaching, and practice are closely intertwined at ASH Berlin, with students actively involved in research projects.

ASH Berlin is also strongly networked internationally. It maintains collaborations with universities, organizations, and institutions worldwide, actively promoting the mobility of students and teaching staff. Furthermore, the university is committed to lifelong learning through permeability in the education system, recognition of non-academic competences, and further education opportunities.

Special awards include the Alice Salomon Poetic Prize and the Alice Salomon Award. The university remains committed to the emancipatory mission and societal mandate of its founder, continuously striving for further development in teaching, research, and knowledge transfer.
