These are the admission requirements for the Bachelor of Mechatronics
You can enroll in the Bachelor's distance learning programme in Mechatronics at IU International University (IU) if you provide us with your A-levels (general qualification for university entrance), your advanced technical college entrance qualification (Fachabitur), or your subject-specific higher education entrance qualification.
Alternatively, you can enroll without A-levels. Studying without A-levels at IU is possible under the following conditions:
- You have successfully completed an advanced training course, for example, a training course to become a certified business economist.
- Or you have completed a vocational training, for example, training as an office clerk. After completing your training, you have worked in this profession full-time for at least 3 years. If your training is thematically not related to the Mechatronics distance learning programme, you will first need to complete a trial study before being regularly enrolled.
If you choose the English-language variant, you must also prove your English skills. You can prove your English skills, for example, through a TOEFL (at least 80 points), IELTS (at least Level 6), a passed Duolingo English Test (at least 105 points), a Cambridge certificate (at least grade B overall), or an equivalent certificate. Alternatively, you can take an English course free of charge directly at IU International University.

Course Content & Modules: This is the Bachelor's Mechatronics Study Schedule
The Bachelor's degree program at IU International University follows a modular structure. Each module typically consists of 5 credit points (ECTS) and concludes with an examination, such as a written exam or assignment. You progress through your Bachelor's degree step by step – and even have a significant say in determining when you want to complete each module.
In full-time studies, you may structure your study plan as follows, for example:
- 1st Semester: Automation Technology, Introduction to Academic Writing for IT and Engineering, Mathematics: Linear Algebra, Fundamentals of Physics, Introduction to Computer Science, Programming with C/C++
- 2nd Semester: Mathematics: Analysis, Collaborative Work, Technical Mechanics: Statics, Numerics, Laplace and Fourier Transformation, Fundamentals of Materials Science, Technical Script-Based Programming
- 3rd Semester: Signals and Systems, Intercultural and Ethical Competencies, Technical Mechanics: Elastostatics, Electrical Engineering, PLC Programming, Project: PLC Programming
- 4th Semester: Mechanics - Kinematics and Dynamics, Electronics and Circuit Technology, Mechatronic Systems, Design of Mechatronic Systems, Electrical Measurement Technology, Control Engineering
- 5th Semester: Fundamentals of Simulation Technology, Embedded Systems, Project: Modeling, Simulation and Controller Design, Seminar: Trends and Innovations in Mechatronics, Elective Module A
- 6th Semester: Elective Module B, Elective Module C, Bachelor's Thesis
What's special about IU's distance learning: the numerous opportunities to delve into interesting elective modules during your studies. In the Mechatronics Bachelor's programme, you choose a total of 3 specialization modules:

Study Concept: How the Part-Time Mechatronics Studies at IU Work
The online Mechatronics studies at IU International University allow you to flexibly adjust your studies to fit your life and daily routine as best suits you. For example, you can choose one of three study models: In the full-time study, you need a total of 6 semesters, which is 36 months, to complete your Bachelor's degree. In part-time study I, you will study for 8 semesters until completion. Or you can opt for part-time study II and take 12 semesters to complete your Bachelor's.
You will receive study materials from IU in printed study booklets with each module enrollment. All materials are also available digitally. The IU Interactive Books are innovative learning scripts enriched with video clips and quiz questions at the end of each lesson. Depending on the module, study materials are supplemented with podcasts, live tutorials, and video content in the form of so-called shortcasts. You can access the IU Interactive Books through the convenient IU Learn app.
In many modules, virtual lectures are also offered, allowing you to interactively engage with your peers and professors.
Extremely practical and flexible is the option to take module examinations in the form of online exams. You can write an online exam 24/7, 7 days a week – whenever you feel best prepared for the exam, such as in building construction. Additionally, we operate around 40 exam centres in Germany, Austria, and Switzerland where you can also take your exams in the traditional way.
