Admission requirements

For the Bachelor's degree in Engineering at the IU International University, the following formal admission requirements apply:

General qualification for university entrance (Abitur), subject-specific higher education entrance qualification or university of applied sciences entrance qualification: With one of these qualifications, direct enrollment is possible.

Study without Abitur: Entry is also possible without a traditional school leaving certificate if the following conditions are met:

  • Successful completion of an advanced training course (e.g. master craftsman certificate, IHK specialist, state-certified business economist)
  • Or: At least two years of recognized vocational training in Germany and subsequently at least three years of full-time work experience. If the previous education is not suitable, a trial study is initially conducted, with possible regular enrollment later.

Proof of English language skills at level B2 (Common European Framework of Reference). Accepted proofs include for example:

  • TOEFL: at least 80 points
  • IELTS: at least 6.0 points
  • Duolingo English Test: at least 95 points
  • Cambridge Certificate: at least grade B overall
  • Alternatively: A free English course directly at the IU or proof of an English-language first degree/mother tongue (no additional proof required here)

An assessment of equivalency is carried out according to ANABIN for international degrees or degrees from abroad.

There is no admission restriction by a numerus clausus (NC). A study start is possible at any time, regardless of the semester.

Personal requirements for study success

  • Interest in engineering issues and technical innovations
  • Good analytical skills and solid knowledge in mathematics and natural sciences
