- Course of study can be conducted in either German or English
Here are the admission requirements for the Bachelor Robotics
You can enrol in the Bachelor distance learning programme in Robotics at IU International University (IU) if you provide us with your A-levels (general qualification for university entrance), your technical college entrance qualification (Fachabitur), or the subject-specific higher education entrance qualification.
Alternatively, you can enrol without A-levels. Studying without A-levels at IU is possible under the following conditions:
- You have successfully completed an advanced training course, such as a training course to become a State-certified Business Manager.
- Or you have completed a vocational training, such as training to become an office clerk. Following your training, you have worked in this profession full-time for at least 3 years. If your training does not match the Robotics distance learning programme thematically, you will first complete a trial study before being officially enrolled.
If you opt for the English-language variant, you must also demonstrate your English language skills. You can prove your English language skills, for example, through a TOEFL (at least 80 points), IELTS (at least Level 6), a passed Duolingo English test (at least 105 points), a Cambridge certificate (at least Grade B), or an equivalent qualification. Alternatively, you can attend an English course free of charge directly at IU International University.

Study Contents & Modules: This is the Study Schedule Plan in the Bachelor Robotics
The interdisciplinary remote study program Robotics at IU combines content from mechanical, electrical, and control engineering with the basics of computer science, data science, and artificial intelligence. We offer the study contents to you either in German or in English.
The Bachelor's program at IU International University is modular. A module usually consists of 5 credit points (ECTS) and concludes with an examination, such as an exam or a written assignment. This way, you complete your Bachelor's degree step by step - and even largely determine when you want to complete which module.
In full-time studies, you can structure your study plan as follows:
- 1st Semester: Introduction to Robotics, Introduction to Scientific Work, Mathematics Fundamentals II, Natural Science and Technical Fundamentals, Mathematics: Linear Algebra, Basics of Construction
- 2nd Semester: Manufacturing Processes Industry 4.0, Introduction to Programming with Python, Mathematics: Analysis, Technical Mechanics: Statics, Electrical Engineering, Project: Construction with CAD
- 3rd Semester: Sensors, Signals and Systems, Mechanics - Kinematics, Mechanics - Dynamics, Collaborative Working, Robot Programming with C/C++
- 4th Semester: Mechatronic Systems, Control Engineering, Project: Modelling, Simulation and Control of Robots, Project: Introduction to Robot Control, Embedded Systems, Project: Robotics
- 5th Semester: Seminar: Human-Machine Interaction, Project: Applied Robotics with Robotics Platforms, Seminar: Robotics and Society, Machinery and Plant Safety, Elective Subject A
- 6th Semester: Elective Subject B, Elective Subject C, Bachelor's Thesis
The special feature of the IU distance learning program: the many opportunities to deepen your studies with interesting elective modules. In the Bachelor Robotics, you choose a total of 3 specialization modules:
You choose the first specialization module from these topics: Introduction to Cognitive Robotics, Industrial Robotics and Automation Technology, Service Robots.
You choose your second and third specialization modules from these topics: Industrial Robotics and Automation Technology, Service Robots, Introduction to Cognitive Robotics, AI Specialist, Autonomous Driving, Data Science and Deep Learning, Python for Software Engineering, IT Security, Mobile Software Engineering, General Studies, Foreign Languages.
Study Concept: This is how the part-time study in Robotics at IU works
You can flexibly adjust the online Robotics study program at IU International University to fit into your life and daily routine as it suits you best. For example, you choose one of 3 study models: In the full-time program, you need a total of 6 semesters, which is 36 months, to complete your Bachelor's degree. In part-time program I, you study for 8 semesters until completion. Or you opt for part-time program II and take up to 12 semesters to complete your Bachelor's.
You will receive study materials from IU with every module registration as printed study booklets. All materials are, of course, also available digitally. The IU Interactive Books are innovative learning scripts enriched with video clips and quiz questions at the end of a lesson. Depending on the module, the study materials are supplemented by podcasts, live tutorials, and video content in the form of so-called Shortcasts. You access the IU Interactive Books via the convenient Learn-App of IU.
In many modules, virtual lectures are also offered, allowing you to interactively engage with your fellow students and lecturers.
Particularly convenient and flexible: the possibility to take module exams in the form of online exams. You can take an online exam 7 days a week around the clock - at a time when you feel best prepared for the exam, for example, in Building Construction. Additionally, we operate about 40 exam centres in Germany, Austria, and Switzerland where you can also take your exams in a traditional on-site manner.
