Details
The part-time cooperative study programme in Mechanical Engineering at the South Westphalia University of Applied Sciences is aimed at professionals and trainees who want to further expand their technical knowledge and skills and complete with an engineering science degree. In addition to the fundamentals of mechanical engineering and manufacturing technology, in higher semesters there are elective options between study specialisations in production technology, plastics technology, business organization and product development.
The study programme is application-oriented and strongly emphasizes the integration of practical experiences and theoretical knowledge. Through cooperation with regional companies, a practice-oriented education is guaranteed, where examples from students' practical experiences are integrated into the teaching.
The modules of the study programme include basic subjects at the beginning of the study and more in-depth subjects in later semesters. Basic modules include Technical Product Documentation, Basics of Computer Science, Mathematics, and Technical Mechanics. In later semesters, knowledge in areas such as automation technology, manufacturing technology, and production management is imparted.
The study programme is complemented by on-site events, which take place every other Saturday from late September to early February or from early March to mid-July at the university. An average time commitment of approximately 5 hours per week should be planned for these on-site events.
In addition, laboratory internships are completed.
Mechanical engineers have diverse career opportunities, including product development, design, manufacturing, sales, assembly, service, quality management, research and development, as well as recycling, planning, and testing. In addition, the study programme offers the opportunity to acquire the prerequisites for a subsequent teaching degree alongside the bachelor's degree.
The study programme spans nine semesters and comprises 180 ECTS credits. There is a close connection between self-study, on-site events, and practical projects, ensuring a practice-oriented and scientifically sound education.
