Formal Requirements: How to Secure Admission
You can apply for the Bachelor in Cyber Security at FOM if you meet one of the following admission requirements:
- (Technical) university entrance qualification: You possess a general or subject-specific university entrance qualification or a university of applied sciences entrance qualification.
- Professional qualification: Admission is also possible without a university entrance qualification if you have completed recognised vocational training and have at least three years of professional experience.
- Advanced training: Alternatively, completed vocational training and further advanced training (e.g. specialist economist, master craftsman) suffice.
In addition, current employment or ongoing training, an internship, a trainee programme, or a voluntary position is required – either full-time or part-time. If you are currently not employed, the student advisory service will review your individual options (e.g. participation in "Study into the Job").
On a personal level, you should have an interest in technical and organisational IT security topics, possess logical reasoning skills, and be willing to engage with complex issues. Teamwork, willingness to learn, as well as the ability to study independently and in a structured way alongside your job or training are advantageous. In the Cyber Security (B.Sc.) degree programme, you develop expert knowledge around the security of digital systems and infrastructures. You learn to analyse and secure IT infrastructures and acquire comprehensive knowledge of cryptography, secure networks, web and software security, as well as cyber defence. A key focus is on the detection, analysis and defence against cyber attacks. You will engage with topics such as IT forensics, data protection, social engineering, edge computing and big data security.
In addition, you will train your project management skills and innovation processes in order to systematically develop and implement security architectures and policies. Elective modules include options such as Innovation & Change Management, Start-up Management & Business Development as well as SAP and Enterprise Resource Planning. Alongside technical skills, you will also purposefully develop your analytical, organisational and interdisciplinary competences.
How is the Cyber Security degree structured at FOM?
The degree lasts for 7 semesters in a part-time format and is designed for 180 ECTS points. In the Digital Live Study you participate remotely in live-streamed lectures that are interactive and allow for exchange with lecturers and fellow students. Additionally, you have access to a media library with recorded lectures.
You start each time in the summer semester (March) or the winter semester (September). The organisation is especially flexible: Evening and Saturday studies allow you to combine your studies with work or vocational training. Semester breaks are in August and from mid to late February.
Optionally, you can take part in SmartStart programmes or preparatory courses before the first semester. Through specialisations and block seminars, the degree can be tailored to individual interests. Prior achievements from professional qualifications or previous degree courses can be credited towards the programme. If required, you can apply for up to two leave semesters free of charge.

The total cost for the Cyber Security degree at FOM University amounts to €20,450. This consists of 42 monthly instalments of €475 plus a one-off examination fee of €500.
Prior achievements (e.g. vocational training or study modules) can be credited, which reduces the study duration and fees.

- Leave semesters of up to two semesters without fees are possible.
