Admission requirements

Successfully completed university studies with a standard period of study of at least 6 semesters, including mathematics with at least 9 SWS or 13 ECTS and computer science with at least 18 SWS or 27 ECTS.

Missing mathematics or computer science components must be demonstrated through certified achievements at scientific universities in the corresponding scope.

Details

The Computer Science programme is aimed at graduates of a first professional qualifying course who wish to acquire practical expertise in computer science. The aim is to convey the ability to work with scientific methods and insights in the field of computer science. The programme is divided into the areas of "Foundations of Computer Science," "Computer Systems," "Information Systems and Artificial Intelligence," "Software Engineering and Programming Languages," and "Operating Systems, Distributed and Cooperative Systems." For the non-consecutive Master of Computer Science programme, completion of a course of study lasting at least 6 semesters with specific components in mathematics and computer science is required. The programme as a whole comprises 90 CP, spread across 6 modules, a seminar, a practical training period, and the master's thesis. The courses consist of instructional texts, practice exercises, and optional study days. Additionally, programming and practical training sessions are offered to enable self-study from home.

The programme was renamed to "Practical Computer Science, M.Sc." on 01.10.2011 and is offered by the FernUniversität in Hagen. The programme is accredited by AQAS since 2018. The assessors praise the practical relevance of the content and the connection to industrial contacts that are integrated into the teaching. Positive supervision and feedback from the working students are noted. The programme is offered on a part-time basis in Hagen, Germany, at the FernUniversität in Hagen.
