Admission requirements
The access to the master's programme requires the following prerequisites:
Degree in an electrical engineering course at a university with a minimum of 6 semesters of standard study period, e.g. Bachelor or Dipl.-Ing. (FH) or Dipl.-Ing. (BA) Overall grade of 3.0 or better (exceptions are decided by the examination board) No numerus clausus (NC) restrictions, provided that the requirements are met Additional compulsory subjects required for a shorter standard study period or lacking technical basicsDetails
At the University of Duisburg-Essen (UDE), engineers with a bachelor's or FH degree have the opportunity to further their scientific education and earn a master's degree as part of the "University Master's Distance Learning Programme in Electrical Engineering and Information Technology".
The programme is aimed at professionals in the electrical and information technology industry who wish to further qualify themselves and aim for leadership positions. It offers a flexible study organization that enables part-time further education, thus providing a response to the looming shortage of skilled workers in the industry.
The distance learning programme includes four selectable areas of specialization:
Automation Engineering: Focuses on theoretical and experimental modeling, control engineering, stochastically disturbed systems, device and system technologies, energy efficiency in production. Digital Communication Systems: Covers optical networks, system theory, signal processing, coding theory, wireless networks, and antennas. High-Frequency Systems: Addresses electronic fields, wave propagation, optical transmission media, antenna technology, and circuit concepts of microwave technology. Intelligent Energy Networks: Focuses on high-voltage technology, electrical power generation and distribution, decentralized power supply, and energy control systems. The master's programme comprises a total of 90 ECTS credits, with 60 credits allocated to courses and seminars and 30 to the master's thesis. Examinations take place during the semester in the form of written and oral exams. Students complete the programme with a master's thesis.
The programme offers flexible study conditions thanks to the online learning platform Moodle, where all lectures and exercises are available as video clips. Examinations are held on the Duisburg campus together with on-site students, ensuring that the content meets the standards of on-site studies.
