Details
For many engineering activities in industry, services, or public administration, studying electrical and information technology is the foundation. Qualified professionals are in high demand – from the automotive industry to future energy supply. Technical University of Aschaffenburg and Darmstadt University of Applied Sciences offer a part-time distance learning programme, Bachelor of Engineering in Electrical and Information Technology, in cooperation. The distance learning programme is particularly aimed at professionally qualified individuals and those who wish to continue working while studying.
The broad-based programme follows the approach of Blended Learning, a mix of self-study and face-to-face sessions. The basic semesters cover fundamental topics such as physics, mathematics, and electronics. Specialisation subjects in the main study period include automation technology and industrial electronics. The programme is modular and covers the following topics:
Fundamentals of Electrical Engineering Physics Engineering Mathematics Programming with C/C++ Microprocessor Programming Automation and Control Engineering Electronics, Electrical Drives, and Machines Digital Technology, Digital Systems, Digital Signal Processing Electrical Measurement Technology Computer Science Quality Management Business Administration Technical English, Scientific Work Various elective subjectsIn the final phase of the programme, a study project and a bachelor thesis are written. The standard duration of the part-time Electrical and Information Technology programme is nine semesters. Professional experience is credited as a practical semester, reducing the study duration to eight semesters.
At the beginning of each semester, students receive study materials in the form of study guides and e-learning units, which they work through in self-study. Self-study is individually organised and accounts for approximately 80% of the total study workload. Regular face-to-face sessions, four times per semester – on Fridays and Saturdays in Aschaffenburg and Darmstadt, deepen the self-learned material and ensure practical relevance. The face-to-face sessions are offered in the form of tutorials, compact lectures, or lab sessions. Students receive individual support throughout the programme.
