These are the admission requirements for the Master's programme in Data Management
We offer the Master's in Data Management in 2 variants: the shortened 60-ECTS variant lasts 2 semesters in full-time study. The 120 ECTS variant lasts 4 semesters in full-time study.
For the 120-ECTS variant over 4 semesters, the following requirements apply:
- You hold a first degree with a minimum grade of "satisfactory".
- If your degree has a different focus, you can be admitted via a Master's entrance examination.
For the shortened 60-ECTS variant, the following requirements apply:
- You hold a first degree with a minimum grade of "satisfactory".
- If your first degree is 180 ECTS, you must complete 30 ECTS worth of courses additionally and demonstrate at least 1 year of relevant professional experience. Alternatively, you must demonstrate at least 2 years of relevant professional experience.
- If your degree is 210 ECTS, you must show at least 1 year of qualified professional experience gained after your studies.
- If your degree is 240 ECTS, as is common with many diploma degrees, you must also demonstrate 1 year of qualified professional experience in addition to the degree.
In addition, you must also provide evidence of your English language skills. For example, you can prove your English skills with a TOEFL score (minimum 80 points), IELTS (at least level 6), a passing score on the Duolingo English Test (minimum 105 points), a Cambridge certificate (at least grade B overall), or equivalent proof. Alternatively, you can take a free English course directly at IU International University.

In the 120 ECTS variant, you could structure your curriculum in full-time study as follows:
- 1st Semester: Concepts in Data Management, Database Concepts and Technologies, Data Query Languages, NoSQL Databases, Seminar: Ethic & Societal Considerations in Data Management, Advanced Research Methods
- 2nd Semester: Data Engineering, Big Data Technologies, Data Warehousing, Pipelines and Orchestration, Managing Data Projects, Seminar: Cloud Providers and Services, Project: Data Engineering
- 3rd Semester: Programming with Python, Project: Data Analysis in the Cloud, Elective A, Elective B
- 4th Semester: Master Thesis
In the 120 ECTS variant, you choose a total of 2 specialisations based on your interests from these themes: Data Manager for Internet of Things, Data Miner, Master Data Manager, Data Security and Protection Specialist, Data Scientist, Business Analyst, Technical Project Lead, Process Management and Operational Application Systems.
Study Concept: How part-time study in Data Management works at IU
You can adapt online studies in Data Management at IU International University flexibly to your life and daily routine, making it work best for you. For example, you can choose from 3 study models: In the full-time study, it takes a total of 2 semesters or 4 semesters, depending on the study variant, to complete the master's degree. In part-time study I, you study for 3 or 6 semesters until completion. Or you opt for part-time study II and take 4 or 8 semesters until the master's.
With each module enrollment at IU, you receive study materials as printed study booklets. All materials are also available digitally. The IU Interactive Books are innovative learning scripts enriched with video clips and quiz questions at the end of a lesson. Depending on the module, study materials are supplemented with podcasts, live tutorials, and video content in the form of shortcasts. You can access the IU Interactive Books via the handy Learn App of IU.
In many modules, virtual lectures are also offered, allowing you to interact interactively with your fellow students and lecturers.
Particularly convenient and flexible: the option to take module exams in the form of online exams. You can take an online exam 24/7, 7 days a week - when you feel best prepared, for example, for the exam in construction. Additionally, we operate about 40 exam centers in Germany, Austria, and Switzerland where you can take your exams in a traditional on-site manner.
