Admission requirements

Required for admission to the VAWi programme are the following:

• a degree in a professional qualifying course of study at a university, an equivalent institution of higher education, a university of applied sciences, or an equivalent vocational academy/dual university. The first degree programme must have a standard period of study of at least 6 semesters or 180 ECTS credits.
• Professional experience typically amounting to at least 1 year following the completion of the first degree programme.
• Skills in the field of business informatics, business administration, or informatics from the first degree programme or from IT-related professional activities.

Details

The Virtual Further Education Programme in Business Informatics is an internet-based course that concludes with the internationally recognized academic degree "Master of Science" (M.Sc.). The VAWi programme is conducted and supervised at the universities of Duisburg-Essen and Bamberg with the participation of numerous other university partners. It is based on a combination of short presence phases at the beginning and end of the semester and multimedia-supported distance learning phases during the semester, in which students are intensively supported.

The programme is offered in a variant with 90 ECTS credits (VAWi090) and in a variant with 120 ECTS credits (VAWi120). In both variants, a master's thesis with a scope of 17 ECTS credits as well as two project works totaling 8 ECTS credits must be completed.

• In the VAWi090 variant, 13 modules with a total of 65 ECTS credits must also be completed.
• In contrast, the VAWi120 variant requires the completion of 19 modules with a total of 95 ECTS credits, with up to 15 ECTS credits for professional competencies being recognized.

A total of 45 modules are offered. These are assigned to 11 module groups, each of which has a strategically management-oriented focus or a technically operational focus.

• Technically operational focus: Basic Technologies, Development of Application Systems, Development and Management of Information Systems, Data Management Systems, Models and Methods for Decision Support, Web and Multimedia Systems
