Here are the admission requirements for the Master's programme in Business Informatics
We offer the Master's programme in Business Informatics in 2 variants: the shortened 60 ECTS variant lasts 2 semesters in full-time study. The 120 ECTS variant lasts 4 semesters in full-time study.
For the 120 ECTS variant in 4 semesters, the following requirements apply:
- You have a first degree in Business Studies or Computer Science with a final grade of at least "satisfactory". If your degree has a different focus, you can be admitted through a master's entrance examination.
- In addition, you demonstrate knowledge of at least one programming language. You can take a corresponding course free of charge at IU before starting your studies.
For the shortened 60 ECTS variant, the following requirements apply:
- You have a first academic degree with a final grade of at least "satisfactory".
- If your first degree is 180 ECTS, you will take courses totaling 30 ECTS afterwards and demonstrate at least 1 year of relevant professional experience. Alternatively, you demonstrate at least 2 years of relevant professional experience.
- If your degree is 210 ECTS, you demonstrate at least 1 year of qualified professional experience. The professional experience was gained after completing your studies.
- If your degree is 240 ECTS, as is the case with many diploma degrees, you also demonstrate 1 year of qualified professional experience in addition to the degree.
- In addition, you demonstrate knowledge of at least one programming language. You can take a corresponding course free of charge at IU before starting your studies.
Foreign applicants also demonstrate their proficiency in German, for example via TestDaF, DSH, Telc or ÖSD.

Study Concept: How the part-time Business Informatics study program at IU works
You can adapt the online Business Informatics studies at IU International University flexibly to your life and daily routine, as it suits you best. For example, you can choose from 3 study models: In the full-time program, you need a total of 2 semesters or 4 semesters, depending on the study variant, to complete the Master's degree. In part-time program I, you study for 3 or 6 semesters until graduation. Or you opt for part-time program II and take 4 or 8 semesters to complete the Master's.
You will receive study materials at IU with each module enrollment as printed study booklets. All materials are also available to you digitally. The IU Interactive Books are innovative study scripts enriched with video clips and quiz questions at the end of a lesson. Depending on the module, study materials are supplemented with podcasts, live tutorials, and video content in the form of so-called Shortcasts. You can access the IU Interactive Books through the practical IU Learn-App.
In many modules, virtual classes are also offered, allowing you to interact interactively with your fellow students and lecturers.
Very practical and flexible: the option to take module exams in the form of online exams. You can take an online exam 7 days a week around the clock - and that's when you feel optimally prepared for the exam, for example, in construction design. Additionally, we operate around 40 exam centers in Germany, Austria, and Switzerland, where you can also take exams in the traditional way on-site.
