Admission requirements
For enrollment, you will need a certified copy of your diploma for a completed course of study with a standard period of at least six semesters at a university within the scope of the Basic Law or an equivalent foreign degree in the following fields of study:
- Business Informatics (Bachelor, Diploma, Master)
- Computer Science (Bachelor, Diploma, Master)
- Economics, Business Administration, Economics (Bachelor, Diploma, Master), provided that in these courses of study at least 30 ECTS credits in the contents of Business Informatics or Computer Science (e.g. process modeling, software engineering, programming languages, databases) and at least 10 ECTS credits in mathematical content (mathematics, statistics) have been completed.
Graduates of other fields of study that include content in economics, business informatics, or computer science can be enrolled, provided that the aforementioned contents amount to at least 90 ECTS credits. The contents of Business Informatics or Computer Science (e.g. process modeling, software engineering, programming languages, databases) must amount to at least 30 ECTS credits, and the mathematical content (mathematics, statistics) must amount to at least 10 ECTS credits.

The Master's programme in Business Informatics at the FernUniversität in Hagen leads to the degree of Master of Science and lasts for 4 semesters. The course is designed for working professionals and is aimed at graduates who want to independently analyse complex issues in the fields of computer science and business administration and develop solutions. Students acquire knowledge of theories, models, and research findings in business informatics and are able to analyze and classify them.
The programme requires a first degree in Business Informatics or a related field. Students complete 8 elective modules and must take exams or oral exams. At least three modules in business informatics, as well as one module each in computer science and business administration, are required. In the third semester, students participate in a seminar that serves as preparation for the master's thesis. The master's thesis consists of 30 CP and is written in the fourth semester.
Graduates of the programme are qualified for positions with interface functions between computer science and users, such as staff positions in companies or roles in the public sector. The programme offers a wide range of professional opportunities, such as change management, enterprise modeling, and software development.
