Admission requirements
- A certificate of general higher education entrance qualification (Abitur). Alternatively, a certificate of completion of a university course with a standard period of study of at least 6 semesters is also recognized, with the exception of degrees from universities of public administrations and art colleges.
- A certificate of subject-specific higher education entrance qualification for one of the subjects Psychology, Sociology/Social Sciences, and Economics is also considered as a qualification for studies.
- Those who have obtained a comparable educational qualification abroad can be admitted to study Psychology at FernUni.
- Studying without a higher education entrance qualification is possible under certain circumstances.
Bachelor of Science Business Informatics
Business informatics specialists deal with information and communication systems in companies. Since the winter semester 2006/07, the FernUni Hagen has offered the Bachelor's degree program in Business Informatics, which is intended to lead to a Bachelor of Science.
Study Contents
The distance learning program in Business Informatics at FernUni Hagen consists of 14 compulsory modules, two elective modules, a seminar, and the Bachelor's thesis. The individual submodules are as follows:
- Introduction to Economics, Basics of Business Informatics, Business Mathematics
- External Accounting, Introduction to Object-Oriented Programming, Algorithmic Mathematics
- Financial and decision-theoretical basics of Business Administration, Introduction to Technical Informatics and Operating Systems and Computing Networks, Modeling of Information Systems
- Internal Accounting and Functional Control, Introduction to Internet Technology and Information Systems, Corporate Information Systems
- Information Management, Theory of Market Economy OR Macroeconomics
- Two elective modules
Each module has a scope of 6 semester hours per week.
Study Duration and Organization
The Business Informatics distance learning program can be completed as both a part-time and full-time study. The full-time program is designed for a study period of 6 semesters, while the part-time program takes 9 semesters. A total of 180 ECTS points can be earned, which corresponds to approximately 5400 working hours. The weekly effort is 30 to 40 hours, depending on whether studying full-time or part-time.
The study of Business Informatics at FernUni Hagen is organized as distance learning. All study materials can be worked on from home and alongside work; occasional on-site seminars are also included. Examinations can be taken at the nearest study centres of FernUni.
Degree Awarded: Bachelor of Science
The program concludes with a Bachelor of Science degree, which is awarded after successfully completing all modules, the seminar, and the Bachelor's thesis.
Tuition Fees
Currently, FernUni Hagen does not charge tuition fees. Instead, material fees are due. The fees are calculated based on the number of semester hours per module. One semester hour costs 20,- EUR. Therefore, for a module with a scope of 6 semester hours, 120,- EUR are due.
In addition, there is the student union fee, which is approximately 11,- EUR per semester. This means that around 300,- EUR per semester are due for the Business Informatics distance learning program.
