- 3 flexible time models from full-time to part-time for every life situation
- interesting specializations, for example in functional buildings or in Smart Building
- innovative learning concept with IU Learn app and digital classes
If you want to study interior design but don't necessarily need the professional title "architect," then the distance learning course Interior Architecture* at the IU International University (IU) is perfect for you. Here you will learn in digital format how to design the buildings of tomorrow.
The program is currently not chamber eligible: you acquire professional skills (job qualifying) but are not allowed to use the protected professional title of interior architect (professionally qualifying). In Germany, to obtain this professional title, you need to be listed in an architects' association. Usually, you can only apply for association membership after completing a four- or five-year interior architecture degree with a minimum of two years of relevant work experience. Some regional associations may require additional qualifications. The respective architects' association of each federal state decides on the listing. Many associations currently state that they do not admit applicants who have completed their Bachelor's degree in architecture through distance learning. Physical attendance is generally still considered essential. Even the addition of a recognized Master's programme cannot currently guarantee admission to an architects' association.
Nevertheless, the IU Interior Architecture* programme has much to offer. It is currently the only Bachelor's distance learning programme in interior architecture* - state-recognised, accredited, and practical. We collaborate with internationally successful experts from the architecture industry who support you in your professional development.
Despite the current restriction on admission by the architects' association and reservations about competency delivery in online teaching: state accreditation demonstrates that our study format is equally suitable for acquiring the necessary skills. We focus on innovative teaching methods: students learn through physical models, creating everything from hand sketches to digital images, and interact with each other and the lecturers - but online.
The long, at least 6-year education as an interior architect is just one path into the industry. With the IU Interior Architecture* programme, many career opportunities are available to you: whether in an office or in public service, you can find and pursue your own focus as a designer, a developer of constructive details, or in construction projects - even without association membership. If this aligns with your personal goals, our distance learning programme is right for you.
These are the admission requirements for the Bachelor Interior Architecture*
In the Bachelor's distance learning course in Interior Architecture* at the IU International University (IU), you can enrol if you provide us with your A-levels (general qualification for university entrance), your advanced technical college certificate (vocational qualification for university entrance), or a subject-specific higher education entrance qualification.
Alternatively, you can enrol without A-levels. Enrolment without A-levels at IU is possible under the following conditions:
- You have successfully completed an advanced training course, such as training to become a state-certified business economist.
- Or you have completed a vocational training, such as training as an office clerk. Following your training, you have worked in this profession full-time for at least 3 years. If your training does not match the subject of the distance learning programme in Interior Architecture*, you will first complete a trial study before being regularly enrolled.
