Admission requirements
The distance learning course "Lighting Design" is a master's program for working professionals. In order to be admitted, the following requirements must be met:
A first professional qualifying university degree (bachelor, master, diploma - min. 180 ECTS credits) in:
- a design-related course such as architecture, interior design, design, or theatre studies, as well as one year of relevant qualified professional experience after the first professional qualifying university degree
or - an engineering course such as mechanical engineering, electrical engineering, or computer science, as well as two years of relevant qualified professional experience after the first professional qualifying university degree
or - a business-related course such as business administration, business informatics, or business law, as well as two years of relevant qualified professional experience after the first professional qualifying university degree
In addition, proof of design skills in the form of a portfolio and proof of written and oral English proficiency must be provided (TOEFL test minimum 80 points or equivalent of 6.0 in IELTS).
If English is the native language or if the bachelor's degree was obtained in an institution where the language of instruction is English, and if the primary language used in professional practice is English, an English test is not required. Any doubts in this regard will be decided by the examination committee.
Details
The Master's distance learning programme "Lighting Design - Architectural Lighting and Design Management" offers a comprehensive education in the field of lighting design and management. Students learn design criteria, daylight utilization, artificial lighting, design projects (conceptual design, detailed lighting design, selected lighting design principles), design methods (fundamentals, visualization and calculation), branding and marketing, light application and sustainability, strategic management, design and economics, project management, as well as the preparation of a master's thesis and the colloquium.
The distance learning programme spans 30 months and corresponds to a workload of 120 ECTS. It is aimed at students who want to deepen their expertise in the field of Lighting Design and develop an understanding of design management. Through practical workshops, which take place five to ten days per semester at various locations, participants gain practical insights and can apply their knowledge.
Upon successful completion of the programme, graduates receive the title "Master of Arts" and are thus qualified to work in the field of Lighting Design and Design Management. The programme is offered by Wismar International Graduation Services GmbH (WINGS).
