Admission requirements
For the Master's programme in Applied Environmental Sciences, the following applicants can be admitted:
1. Applicants with a university degree
a study programme of at least 6 semesters with 180 ECTS credits (Bachelor, Diploma, Magister, State Examination, etc.)
and relevant professional experience of at least 1 year after completing the first degree
2. Applicants without a university degree
Applicants without a university degree (e.g. technicians, laboratory assistants, and master craftsmen) need:
Option 1
the university entrance qualification
3 years of relevant work experience
and passing an aptitude test
Option 2
vocational training with a qualified result (at least 2.5)
3 years of relevant work experience
and passing an aptitude test
Option 3
passing the master craftsman examination (or equivalent examination)
3 years of relevant work experience
and passing an aptitude test
Details
The further education distance learning programme "Applied Environmental Sciences" provides professionals and managers in the environmental sector with an interdisciplinary perspective on environmental issues and questions while promoting analytical thinking and conceptual work. It aims to acquire in-depth knowledge and skills in environmentally relevant scientific, technical, legal, and economic fields that enable application-oriented work in the environmental sector.
The graduates of the programme can identify existing environmental problems and conflicts as well as describe and analyse them as results of the complex interrelationship between ecological and economic-technical systems.
The programme is aimed at scientists and engineers, graduates from other disciplines with relevant professional experience after completing their first degree, as well as qualified professionals without a previous university degree, including technicians, laboratory technicians and master craftsmen with several years of experience in the environmental sector.
In particular, professionals from environmental authorities, associations, industry and manufacturing, supply and trading companies, environmental consultants, and engineering offices are targeted with this programme.
Course Contents
The study programme is modular. You have to attend 9 modules in the compulsory area and choose 3 out of the 6 modules in the optional area.
Therefore, a total of 12 modules must be completed. The programme concludes with a master's thesis.

Enrolment takes place annually only for the winter semester. The start of studies is always on 01.10.
