The focus is on the fundamentals of business administration, financial management (controlling, finance), strategy and innovation management, leadership, digital management, as well as value chain management. You develop skills for analysing and controlling key corporate figures, planning and implementing projects, and applying methods such as business analytics. Elective modules such as Marketing & Sales or Operations Management allow for individual profiling. The specialist knowledge is supplemented by competencies in business law, sustainability economics, international management, and digital process management. The study content is oriented towards complex issues from economic and technical practice to specifically promote interconnected thinking and strategic leadership behaviour.
How Is the Programme Structured and How Does It Run?
The programme is designed as a part-time combined course alongside employment or training and lasts five semesters (2.5 years) with a total of 120 ECTS credits. Typical for the concept is the combination of self-study and attendance phases, which almost exclusively take place on Saturdays at the locations Hagen and Bochum. In each semester, you usually work on four modules, starting with basics such as financial statement analysis, leadership, strategy, and project management. In the subsequent semesters, in-depth content such as cost management, business law, investment and financing, operations management, international management, as well as seminars on current topics are the focus. The final phase includes the master’s thesis and a colloquium. The learning content is independently worked through using didactically prepared materials and deepened in attendance phases through practice-oriented discussions and application. Examination achievements are varied and range from written exams and presentations to written papers and the master’s thesis.
