For this degree programme, a successfully completed engineering or natural sciences degree (Bachelor of Science; Bachelor of Engineering; Diplom-Ingenieur or Diplom-Ingenieurin; scientist with a technical or scientific component of modules – without thesis and colloquium – of at least 75%) with an overall grade of at least "satisfactory" (3.0) and a minimum of 12 months of relevant work experience after completing the degree are required. Pure business engineers do not meet these requirements. English language skills at B2 level are recommended.

The postgraduate master's degree program in Management for Engineers and Natural Scientists (MBA) at the South Westphalia University of Applied Sciences prepares engineers and natural scientists for future management tasks at the middle and upper management levels. The program is jointly offered by the South Westphalia University of Applied Sciences and the Bochum University of Applied Sciences, and is conducted through alternating courses in Hagen and Bochum.

The program commences in the summer semester and has a standard period of study of 2.5 years, equivalent to a total workload of 120 ECTS points. The in-person phases mainly take place on Saturdays and emphasize professional discussions and practical application of the course content. Examinations include written exams, oral exams, presentations, and written assignments.
