Study Content, Modules and Specialization Options
With this part-time distance learning course at the state University of Applied Sciences Schmalkalden, you will acquire a Master of Laws as well as, optionally, a degree as a tax consultant. You will complete modules such as Business Law and Procedural Law and specialize in areas such as Insolvency Law or International Accounting. Within 5 semesters of regular study time, you will earn 90 ECTS credits.
The course is structured as follows:
- 1st Semester: Business Administration and Accounting, Business Law, Digitization and Data Protection in Tax Consultation, Taxes (Overview),
- 2nd Semester: Income Taxes I, Procedural Law, Tax Accounting I, Elective Module I
- 3rd Semester: Income Taxes II, Other Taxes I, Tax Accounting II, Elective Module II
- 4th Semester: Income Taxes III, Other Taxes II, Accounting for Partnerships, Practical Cases I, Preparation for the written Tax Consultant Examination
- 5th Semester: Master Thesis and Colloquium, Practical Cases II, Preparation for the written Tax Consultant Examination
In the 2nd and 4th semesters, you will choose a total of 2 specialization modules. In Elective Area I, you will choose one of these modules: Insolvency Law or Tax Criminal Law/Compliance. In Elective Area II, you will choose one of these modules: Restructuring and Insolvency Management or International Accounting.
Presence and Practice
What sets apart the distance learning program at the University of Applied Sciences Schmalkalden are the intensive on-site events and block seminars in Schmalkalden and Gera (Thuringia). During the presence phases, you can engage with your fellow students and teachers on the learning content.
Over the course of the first 4 semesters, you will attend intensive onsite events every 14 days during the lecture times. These events are well-suited for those pursuing their studies alongside their professional commitments.
