Admission requirements
In order to be admitted to the distance learning programme Bachelor Legal Guardianship, one of the following requirements must be met: general university entrance qualification, subject-specific university entrance qualification
technical college entrance qualification. Proof of special expertise according to §§ 23, 24 BtOG as well as the knowledge acquired during the studies is required for registration as a professional guardian.

The Bachelor distance learning programme Legal Guardianship at the University of Wismar provides students with the necessary knowledge for the responsible role of a professional guardian over seven semesters. Extensive knowledge in legal, communicative, and methodological areas is provided to best support and uphold the rights of those under guardianship. The programme has been updated with a focus on the 2023 guardianship reform, offering practical insights through flexible learning methods.
After three semesters, you will already acquire the required expertise for registration as a professional guardian. Study contents include guardianship management, social law competencies, communication specific to guardianship, and decision-making methods. This thoroughly prepares students for their roles in professional settings.
Participants engage in on-site presences and live online events to acquire practice-oriented, subject-specific knowledge in small groups. Additionally, a study app enables learning independent of time and location.
- Proof of expertise after three semesters.
- Examinations at 16 test locations in Germany and Austria.
- Preparation for senior civil service and integration into high remuneration levels in accordance with § 8 VBVG.
