Admission requirements
The access to the master's programme requires: Successfully completed first vocational university degree (min. 180 ECTS credits) At least one year of relevant professional experience after the first university degree (equivalent to 30 ECTS credits)
If the requirements are not met, applicants can still be admitted if they: have university entrance qualification, can demonstrate at least three years of relevant work experience, and have passed an aptitude test.
Applicants whose native language is not German must demonstrate advanced proficiency in German (TestDaF with at least TDN 4 in all areas or DSH-2 or Goethe-Zertifikat C2) in any case.

The Master's programme "German as a Foreign and Second Language" at Saarland University is aimed at individuals who aspire to work in the field of language teaching for immigrants and language support for children, adolescents, and adults with a migration background. Offered as a continuing education Master's programme, it enables graduates to teach German as a foreign and second language and to act as cultural mediators at the same time. The students' intercultural competencies are at the core of the programme. Graduates can find employment opportunities in schools both domestically and internationally as well as in adult education.
The programme can be completed either partially on-campus or entirely online and consists of eight modules and 90 credit points. This is made possible through the provision of knowledge in the fundamentals of linguistics, teaching practice, didactics, and practical experience in the internship module. Additional modules focus on training in a modern foreign language, self-study based on a reading list, and the final master's thesis.
Specific requirements for admission include a first professional university degree and relevant work experience. Alternatively, applicants with sufficient work experience and a passed aptitude test may also be admitted.
