These are the admission requirements for the Bachelor in Occupational Therapy
To enroll in the shortened Occupational Therapy distance learning programme at IU, you must meet the following requirements:
- You have a high school diploma (general higher education entrance qualification), a subject-related university entrance qualification (general higher education for universities of applied sciences), or a subject-specific higher education entrance qualification.
- You have successfully completed a vocational training as an occupational therapist.
In addition, you can also enroll in this distance learning programme even without a high school diploma. Provided that you have successfully completed vocational training as an occupational therapist. After your training, you have worked full-time as an occupational therapist for at least 3 years. You will then complete a trial period before we enroll you as a regular student. By undertaking the trial period, you do not lose any time, as all examinations passed during the trial period will be fully recognized upon your enrollment.

Course Contents & Modules: Here is the Study Schedule for the Bachelor's Degree in Occupational Therapy
The Occupational Therapy degree program at IU is designed for trained occupational therapists. Since we recognize all content of your training totaling 90 out of 180 ECTS, you save a total of 12 modules - in total all modules of the first 3 semesters of the full-time study.
This means that in this distance learning program, you skip the first 3 semesters and only complete the content of Semesters 4, 5, and 6:
- 1st-3rd Semester (recognized): Basics of Anatomy I, Basics of Physiology, General Foundations of Occupational Therapy Practice, Occupational Therapy Examination and Assessment, Craft and Design Techniques, Legal and Social Science Foundations, Basics of Anatomy II, Basics of Pedagogy/Special Education, Pathophysiology, General Pathology, Basics of Psychology/Psychiatry, Communication and Interaction, Special Pathology I, Special Pathology II, Motor-Functional Treatment Methods, Neurophysiological Treatment Methods, Neuropsychological and Psychosocial Treatment Methods, Occupational Therapy Treatment Methods
- 4th Semester: Healthcare Economics, Introduction to Scientific Work, Framework Conditions of the Healthcare Market, Theory and Practice Models, Qualitative Research Methods, Neuro- and Pathophysiology in Therapy - Fundamentals
- 5th Semester: Evidence-Based Practice, Clinical Reasoning, Collaborative Work, Quantitative Research, Seminar: Reflective Practice in the Field of Play and Leisure, Quality Management in Healthcare

Towards the end of the short study period, you choose your specialisation from these modules: Prevention and Health for Therapists, Management for Therapists, Didactics for Therapists, Clinical Deepening for Speech Therapists, Sign Language, Forms of Professional, Work-Oriented Counseling.
Study Concept: How the Part-Time Occupational Therapy Course Works at IU
You can adapt the online Occupational Therapy studies at IU International University flexibly to fit your life and your everyday schedule to suit you best. For example, you can choose from 3 study models: In the full-time program, you need a total of 3 semesters, or 18 months, to complete your Bachelor's degree. In part-time model I, you will study for 4 semesters until graduation. Or you can opt for part-time model II and take 5 semesters to complete the Bachelor's degree.
With each module registration, you will receive study materials at IU as printed study booklets. Of course, all materials are also available digitally. The IU Interactive Books are innovative study scripts enriched with video clips and quiz questions at the end of a lesson. Depending on the module, the study materials are supplemented with podcasts, live tutorials, and video content in the form of so-called Shortcasts. You can access the IU Interactive Books through the practical IU Learn app.
In many modules, virtual teaching events are also offered, allowing you to interactively engage with your fellow students and lecturers.
Especially convenient and flexible is the option to take module exams in the form of online exams. You can take an online exam 7 days a week, around the clock - whenever you feel best prepared for the exam, for example in construction preparation. Additionally, we operate around 40 exam centres in Germany, Austria, and Switzerland where you can also take your exams in the traditional way on-site.
