These are the admission requirements for the Bachelor's in Speech Therapy
You can enroll in Speech Therapy at IU under the following conditions:
- You have a general university entrance qualification (A-levels), a general entrance qualification for universities of applied sciences (Fachabitur), or a subject-specific university entrance qualification.
- You have successfully completed a vocational training as a speech therapist.
Furthermore, you can also enroll without A-levels! Provided that you have successfully completed training as a speech therapist. After your training, you have worked as a speech therapist for at least 3 years. You will then complete a trial period of study before we enroll you regularly. You will not lose any study time due to the trial period, as we will fully recognize all study credits you have earned during the trial period as part of your regular enrollment!

Required for this distance learning course is a completed vocational training in speech therapy. We recognize this training for a total of 18 modules. In full-time studies, this corresponds to the curriculum of the first 3 semesters.
Thanks to the recognition of your vocational training, you will only complete semesters 4, 5, and 6 of this exemplary full-time curriculum:
- 1-3. Semester (recognized): Basics of Anatomy I, Basics of Physiology, General Basics of Speech Therapy, Communication and Interaction, Audiology/Acoustics, Legal and Social Sciences Basics, Basic Neuroanatomy, ENT Medicine, Basics of Phonetics/Linguistics, Articulation Disorders, Basics of Pediatrics, Language Therapy Diagnostics, Normal and Impaired Language Acquisition, Basics of Phoniatrics, Basics of Neurology, Practice in Voice Disorders, Practice in Speech Disorders, Practice in Language Disorders
- 4th Semester: Health Economics, Introduction to Scientific Work, Framework conditions of the Healthcare Market, Theory and Practice Models, Qualitative Research Methods, Neuro- and Pathophysiology in Therapy - Basics
- 5th Semester: Evidence-Based Practice, Clinical Reasoning, Collaborative Work, Quantitative Research, Seminar: Reflective Practice in Language Development, Quality Management in Healthcare
- 6th Semester: Reflective Practice in Voice and Fluency, Reflective Practice in Language and Speech, Elective Subject A, Bachelor's Thesis
Towards the end of the speech therapy distance learning course, you will choose one of these modules for your subject-specific specialisation: Prevention and Health for Therapists, Management for Therapists, Didactics for Therapists, Clinical Specialisation for Speech Therapists, Sign Language, Forms of Professional, Work-Oriented Counseling.
Study Concept: How the Part-Time Study in Speech Therapy Works at IU
You can adapt the online speech therapy studies at IU International University flexibly to your life and daily routine as it fits best for you. For example, you can choose from 3 study models: In full-time study, you need a total of 6 semesters, i.e., 36 months, to complete the bachelor's degree. In part-time study I, you will study for 8 semesters until graduation. Or you can opt for part-time study II and take 12 semesters until your bachelor's.
You will receive study materials at IU with each module enrollment as printed study booklets. All materials are also available to you digitally. The IU Interactive Books are innovative learning scripts enriched with video clips and quiz questions at the end of a lesson. Depending on the module, the study materials are complemented by podcasts, live tutorials, and video content in the form of so-called shortcasts. You can access the IU Interactive Books via the practical Learn-App of IU.
In many modules, virtual lectures are also offered, enabling you to interact interactively with your fellow students and lecturers.
Particularly convenient and flexible: the option to take module exams in the form of online exams. You can write an online exam 7 days a week, around the clock - exactly when you feel optimally prepared for the exam, for example, in construction preparation. Additionally, we operate about 40 exam centers in Germany, Austria, and Switzerland where you can also take your exams in the traditional way in person.
