The Bachelor's programme Social Work & Sports at DHGS German University of Health and Sport combines a basic study of social work with specific competencies in sports science. The programme is particularly suitable for those who want to solve social problems through the combination of sport and social work. In fields of work such as child and youth welfare or school social work, this degree programme offers excellent career prospects. In addition to the Bachelor of Arts degree, graduates can apply for state recognition as a social pedagogue or social worker from the Berlin Senate Department.
The programme consists of a total of 7 semesters, with the 5th semester designed as a practical semester. Students can earn 30 ECTS credits per semester, totaling 210 ECTS credits. This allows access to a subsequent Master's programme. The study contents cover a wide range, including history and theory of social work, societal and health aspects of social work, as well as ethical and pedagogical foundations of sports-oriented social work. Additional contents such as research methods, basics of social economics, and specific legal issues complete the curriculum.
A characteristic feature of this programme is the opportunity to specialize in theory-practice modules from the sixth semester onwards. Currently, three focuses are available: sports social work in daycare centres and all-day schools, sports social work in organized sports, and sports and exercise as instruments and media of social work in healthcare.
This Bachelor's programme is semi-virtual in structure, meaning it offers a combination of online and on-site studies. This provides students with high flexibility, allowing the programme to be completed while working.
