Study ContentsThe key areas of this distance learning programme are:
Human scientific, theological, and philosophical foundations Personal and social competence: self-reflection, analytical and critical thinking Leadership competence: professional-methodological competence in conjunction with social-communicative competence Development of concepts and methods and their application and evaluation in practice Own empirical research work: analysis and conceptualisation in various fields of social work ProcedureSelf-study is carried out through the completion of online modules, which are sequentially offered to students via the internet (see study schedule). These teaching units are complemented by interactive elements (such as chats, forums, or communication via email). These enable intensive communication between students and teachers. Students form virtual work groups with fellow students and work on many tasks as a group.
Each study year involves approximately 4 presence sessions (usually from Monday to Friday afternoon) at the CVJM University in Kassel. During these presence sessions, communicative and methodological competences of social work which cannot be learned and practiced through self-study are mainly conveyed. At the beginning of the studies, presence time is used for the introduction to the learning platform.
The degree programme includes practical professional studies, which must be completed to obtain state recognition. This is usually done as part of the accompanying professional activity during the studies.
For the completion of the entire study programme in a part-time form, a duration of four years is envisaged. This standard period of study foresees about 25 hours of study effort per week for part-time employees. For students who are concurrently employed full-time, a longer duration of study may be expected.
GraduationUpon passing the Bachelor examination, CVJM University awards the academic degree "Bachelor of Arts" ("B.A.").
Furthermore, upon successful completion of the studies and the practical professional studies, online students of the Social Work degree programme are entitled to use the professional title "State-recognized Social Worker/Social Educator" or "State-recognized Social Worker/Social Educator."
