These are the admission requirements for the Master's programme in Social Management
We offer the Master's in Social Management in 2 variations: the condensed 60-ECTS version lasts 2 semesters in full-time study. The 120 ECTS version lasts 4 semesters in full-time study.
For the 120-ECTS version over 4 semesters, the following requirements apply:
- You have a first degree in Social Management, Social Pedagogy, Social Work, or a related field with a focus on social pedagogy, or social, nursing, or health sciences
- Your final grade should be at least "satisfactory."
For the condensed 60-ECTS version, the following requirements apply:
- You have a first degree with a final grade of at least "satisfactory."
- If your first degree comprises 180 ECTS, you must complete 30 ECTS worth of courses and have at least 1 year of relevant work experience. Alternatively, you must have at least 2 years of relevant work experience.
- If your degree comprises 210 ECTS, you need to show at least 1 year of qualified work experience. This work experience should have been gained after completing your studies.
- If your degree comprises 240 ECTS, as is often the case with diploma degrees, you can enroll immediately.
Foreign applicants must also demonstrate their proficiency in German, for example, through TestDaF, DSH, Telc, or ÖSD.

Your second specialization module is chosen from these topics: New Work and Agility, Diversity Management, Communication and Public Relations, Digital Marketing, Work, Organizational and Business Psychology, Competent Communication, Human Resource Management, Applied Statistics and Data Science, Financial Management and Accounting, Communication and Negotiation Techniques.
Study Concept: How the Part-Time Study in Social Management at IU Works
You can adapt the online study program in Social Management at IU International University flexibly to your life and daily routine as it best suits you. For example, you can choose from 3 study models: In the full-time study, it takes a total of 2 semesters or 4 semesters to complete the master's, depending on the study variant. In part-time study I, you study for 3 or 6 semesters until graduation. Or you can opt for part-time study II and take 4 or 8 semesters to complete the master's.
With each module enrollment, you receive study materials printed at IU. All materials are also available to you digitally. The IU Interactive Books are innovative learning scripts enriched with video clips and quiz questions at the end of a lesson. Depending on the module, the study materials are supplemented with podcasts, live tutorials, and video content in the form of so-called Shortcasts. You can access the IU Interactive Books through the convenient IU Learn App.
In many modules, virtual lectures are also offered, allowing you to interactively engage with your peers and lecturers.
A particularly practical and flexible feature is the ability to take module exams in the form of online exams. You can take an online exam 24/7, 7 days a week, whenever you feel best prepared for the exam, for example, in building construction. Additionally, we operate around 40 exam centers in Germany, Austria, and Switzerland where you can also take your exams in the traditional way.
