Career Prospects and Salary
Social Management graduates in Germany work in leadership and coordination roles at social service providers, welfare associations, municipal administrations, and nonprofit organisations. Demand for professionals with management skills in the social sector is high – demographic change and the skilled labour shortage in social services are reinforcing this trend.
| Position | Starting Salary/Year | Median | With 5+ Years Experience |
|---|---|---|---|
| Social Manager (TVöD E11–E13) | ~42,000 € | ~48,000 € | up to 58,000 € |
| Social Manager (private sector) | ~35,000 € | ~42,000 € | up to 55,000 € |
| Facility Director (social services) | ~40,000 € | ~50,000 € | up to 65,000 € |
| CEO (nonprofit) | ~45,000 € | ~55,000 € | up to 75,000 € |
| Fundraising Manager | ~34,000 € | ~40,000 € | up to 50,000 € |
In the public sector, salary is determined by the TVöD collective agreement – Master’s graduates typically enter at pay grades E11 to E13. In the private sector, salary depends heavily on the organisation’s size and funding. Larger welfare associations and church-affiliated providers often pay above collective agreement rates.
