Who can study Master's in Applied Psychology?
To be admitted, you need a completed university degree with at least 180 ECTS credits. A Bachelor's degree in Psychology is not always required. The additional evidence needed depends on whether you choose the 120, 90, or 60 ECTS variant.
120 ECTS: Entry possible even without prior psychological knowledge
The four-semester variant is also open to graduates of other fields of study. First degrees with 180, 210, or 240 ECTS credits can be accepted. In addition, you need at least one year of work experience; the professional context is generally freely selectable.
A Psychology Bachelor's degree or a previously demonstrated basic understanding of psychology is not required for this variant. You will acquire the necessary foundations during your studies.
90 ECTS: psychological or relevant foundational understanding
For the three-semester variant, you also need a first degree with 180, 210, or 240 ECTS credits and at least one year of work experience. Additionally, SRH will assess whether you have a psychological understanding or a relevant understanding related to the chosen focus area.
- For a first degree with 180 ECTS, a motivation interview with the course management is also planned.
- For a degree with 210 or 240 ECTS, in addition to work experience, proof of the relevant professional understanding is usually sufficient.
60 ECTS: compact variant for experienced applicants
The two-semester variant requires at least two years of work experience and a psychological understanding or relevant understanding related to the focus area. The further admission process depends on the scope of your first degree:
- 180 ECTS: additional aptitude test
- 210 ECTS: motivation interview with the course management
- 240 ECTS: no additional aptitude test or motivation interview specified
Individual assessment: Whether your previous academic achievements and professional experiences are sufficient for the desired variant will be assessed by SRH on a case-by-case basis. This is particularly important if your first degree is unrelated to the field or if your psychological understanding comes from work experience and further education.
Who is the study personally suitable for?
This Master's programme is suitable for you if you want to apply psychological insights to specific professional situations. Interest in empirical research, willingness to work with scientific studies, and a responsible approach to sensitive personal topics are helpful.
For the flexible distance learning programme, you also need good self-management skills. The Connect model is more suitable if you benefit from fixed deadlines, a study group, and regular interaction to help you consistently progress in your studies.

SRH offers the programme with 60, 90, or 120 ECTS. This allows you to tailor the scope of your studies to your initial university degree and professional experience. The standard period of study varies from two, three, or four semesters depending on the option chosen.

In the Flex study, you largely determine the order of modules and study times yourself. You can start at the beginning of each month. This model is particularly suitable if you need to combine work, family, or changing work schedules with your studies.
Connect combines distance learning with fixed online classes in the evening and a study group. The study starts on 1st April or 1st October each year. Both formats can be extended free of charge for the respective standard study period.
Is the Master's recognised and does it lead to licensure?
The programme is accredited as Applied Psychology (M.Sc.) and approved under number 1167624 according to the Distance Education Act. The university also has recognition from the Professional Association of German Psychologists for several specializations of the 90 and 120 ECTS variants in Category B.
